I will be there and we are bringing a new model 220. If anyone would like to stop in to say hello, there are free passes available to the public that allow access to the exhibit hall (they can be acquired at the registration booth). This is a great opportunity to meet many of the contributors to PW personally as well as getting to play several manufacturers’ pianos which will be on display (including the new Steingraeber Phoenix with a carbon fiber soundboard).

In addition, I've noticed several threads this year about piano enthusiasts who would like to learn more about the technical aspects of pianos for either a better understanding of "how it works" or to actually work on their own pianos. Folks, this is "the place" to learn more, where you will find one of the largest gatherings of the top technicians in world, including Del Fandrich (who is presenting a class on “How the Piano Works”), Don Mannino of Kawai, Kent Web of Steinway, a first ever presentation from the Yamaha engineering department: “The Principle of Yamaha Piano Development”, the history of the making of piano hammer felt with both Jack Brand of the Wurzen felt company (who supplies Renner), and Norbert Abel of Abel hammers (two seperate classes), Steve Brady, and Andre Oorebeek. There are way too many classes and incredible instructors to list here covering everything from harpsichord repair to concert level action regulation. For information about registration and a complete list of classes, visit: www.PTG.org

Folks, Michael Spreeman builds one of the world's highest quality pianos. They have to be seen, touched and played to be appreciated.

Wow, thank you for the vote of confidence Bill.

I want to add that if anyone is in the area, this is also an excellent time to purchase tools and supplies. Most of the supply houses are represented at the national conventions and even if you don't attend classes (a huge loss, IMO), you can still get the free pass to the exhibit hall. "Convention specials" and discount pricing are common and there is nothing that can compare to being able to see and feel the numerous specialty tools prior to purchase.

Wow, sounds like it's going to be a great convention/show.

I wish I was going.

I hope some of you will take pictures and post comments back on the forums.

I'll post what may be of interest like our evening gatherings of company owners having way too much fun!!!! Now, nobody will party like in LA.

Seriously,
I'd be happy to capture some fine instruments, people and moments on film, I mean memory card.

Can't go to Vegas...Jane and I'll be at 2011 for all or part of the event for sure though...the Grand Rapids event (and we only attended the exhibit hall at that!) was incredible! The energy and focus was contagious...can't wait to do it again...we'll get to see more of the schedule next time, but 2011 will be our year...

The Bally's hotel is directly across from the water display at the Bellagio. The Paris resort is next to the Bally's. Cesars Palace, The Flamingo, The Mirage, The Venetian are all within close walking distance and offer attractions and shows for all price ranges. The weather has been cooler than usual here lately. When you come in to register don't forget to stop by our "Host Chapter" desk for your convention pin. If anyone needs information about our city please send me a email.

Great info David! For those of you who don't know Mr. Chadwick, he has been instrumental in helping put on this outstanding conference! On top of that he is a heck of a nice guy! Be sure to stop by and see him. If your lucky he might do an Elvis impersonation for you! (Are you bringing the Jumpsuit David??)

Bally's is indeed right in the thick of things! Looking forward to seeing you all soon!!

Ah, no. There are too many Elvis' (pronounced el-vi) in this town and I might get the union guys mad. Thanks for the nice words Ryan. I'm sure we'll all have a good time. See you at the pool for a cold one.

Loaded in 13 pianos to Bally's today! Kudos to Santana Piano movers for getting them in so quickly and efficiently. Great crew.

3 Shigeru Kawai SK-3 pianos were set up in the tuning exam rooms, so if any of you are taking your tuning exam at the convention, try to enjoy it!

After the banquet on Monday night Kawai will be presenting a concert by John Chen of New Zealand. He will be performing music by Bach, Schumann, and Liszt on a new Shigeru EX concert grand.

Hope to see you here!

One more sleep.
We have 10 from our chapter going.
That's a record for us.

It's nice to have such a great chapter in our city.
I wish Darrell and Heather Fandrich could make it this year, we would have had 12.

So sorry I won't be there to learn and to meet everyone!

Just now recovering from surgery and cannot make the trip.

Look forward to hearing some of the experiences folks have at the convention. Have great fun!

Exhibit hall is taking shape today, will be set up mostly tomorrow. Wow, it is dry in the hotel - my poor pianos are really reacting! I measured mostly 26-28% Rh most of the day in the classroom areas, but then it dropped down to 20% in the evening. This is going to make my tuning seminars on Saturday a bit of a challenge!

Michael, I saw that your piano was set up in a classroom, but I didn't dare lift the cover. I'll wait until you've had a change to touch it up. Maybe the change from Arizona to Nevada won't be so hard on the pianos as the change from coastal California is.

See you there, Don. smile I'll be looking forward to playing the SK-EXs in the exhibit hall. *hint* wink I might stop by the verticals, too... although the only Kawai vertical I've played that I liked much, if I remember correctly, was the K35, which I believe is not currently in production, or at least not imported to the USA. (It has a 26-note bass with plain steel trichords all the way down to the break, btw, which I personally prefer in that size (52" if I remember correctly) piano.) Main thing I DON'T like about the K35, though, is the sorry excuse for a "music desk" - a fold-out shelf like so many pianos these days use. frown Or am I just spoiled on my two Baldwin Hamiltons, plus the other two Hamiltons I play somewhat frequently? smile

Any other specialty pianos going to be there, besides just the Ravenscroft 220? I hear David Rubenstein's R-242 isn't quite finished yet, so I don't expect to see it there. I wish we could have gotten Adrian Mann (in NZ) to bring his piano, though.

Looking forward to the convention. smile

Frank, when are you gonna come yourself, bring your D3s, D3x, or 1Ds Mk III, and 35/1.4, 85/1.2, 70-200/2.8L IS, etc, and take pictures (and enjoy the pianos) yourself? wink

No, you don't, the registration is just much more expensive. The convention was a couple weeks ago, though.

There are pictures here:

And the price of registration for non-members is here:
