Starting at bar 34, there is a passage where the right hand has ascending triplets, each triplet beginning with a third. I am inclined to use 5-3 on each third and climb my way up but I am not sure if this will produce the most legato result. I have tried it alternating 4-2 and 5-3, which seems to make it more legato in some places and bumpier in others. What fingering do those people who have mastered this piece suggest?

I have always used 5-3 for each third, and that works well for my hand.

I feel that the inner triplets almost all have to be played with 3, 1, 2, which means that the fingering for the thirds pretty well has to be 5/3 all the way up. If you try some of the thirds with 4/2, then you have to finger the triplets with 2, 1, 2 and I don't see any advantage to doing that.

Why not keep it consistent and just concentrate on "leaning" on the top notes to voice them and make them as legato as possible.

I play the third with 5 and 3 and the other two notes with 1 and 2. I change the pedal on each triplet or every two triplets (away from the piano, cannot remember which).

I'm another who plays them 5-3 all the way up. My hands are not particularly large

Yeah I too play them all with 5 and 3 you just need a bit of practice to get them legato. 4 and 2 makes it awkward because you use 1 and 2 on the two other notes in between the thirds.

Couldn’t resist MIDI showing the rising scalar note pattern ... m34-m36.

But against this RH ascent is the interesting choice of LH notes (in terms of scale degrees)

LH ...4 ...5 2 4 5 7 2 4 5 1

The 3-5 fingering might seem obvious, but as indicated by BruceD, achieving a legato flow to measures 34-36 needs work.
