In fact I sat next to the author all morning in a Steinway class at the PTG convention.

Kenny, any mention in the 2008-09 about the lowering of the M&H ranking in last year's supplement? I'd be curious to know what Fine's opinion is of the reaction to the downgrading. Also, I've always wondered about his survey techniques, i.e., how many techs/tuners/sales personnel/teachers/professional pianists he polls, or how many brands he actually comes in contact with, and whether or not he sits down to play the latest new models in order to get a first-hand impression?

Kenny: What's the point in telling us you got the latest edition if you're not willing(so far) to tell us all what we are obviously interested in- the changes, if any, in the tier rankings?

I also purchased my copy on Wednesday.

Tonight concert is David Benoit hosted by Steinway.

There are some incredible pianos here. For this conference over 120 pianos have been brought in.

There are some changes in Larrys book, but not many.

Bechstein, C. has been upgraded to 1A

Brodmann upright same spot 4A
Brodmann Grands 3C
Hailun 4A

Lest anyone forget, the Piano Book is a business. An annual supplement is probably a good thing for business provided that it doesn't become stale like a series of movie sequels. A simultanenous occurrence of a publishing date, a national PTG convention, and the appearance of the author to autograph copies is hardly a random alignment of the stars.

Mr. Fine's groups are probably good for business as well. At this point there might be as many upwardly mobile acoustic piano users as there are truly-new-to-piano sales prospects. The Fine groups chart a course and provide a ladder to climb. Tune in here and the ladder can become an escalator. Taller is better. Longer is better. European is better. Something else is always better. Never get too comfortable with what you have. Reached a plateau in playing ability? Get a better piano. It will elevate you and your playing. Pay more, and you get more. Always strive higher. Be prepared to double your budget. Sound familiar? Dangerous if you can't be comfortable in your own skin. laugh

Anyone know when the ebook for the supplement will be available? The website says "around June 20th"...
