Hi Teachers,
I am very familiar with the Royal Conservatory, but I just learned about the Conservatory Canada system. Is anyone familiar with this? I understand it is divided the same way, 10 levels plus diploma, and that exams can be done in parts. Is Conservatory Canada recognized the same way as RCM? Any insights would be appreciated!

Yes, it's similar but not as widely known. The publish repertoire books to match the grade levels. I've used the books just as another music book, but haven't sent students for exams as it seems more useful to have them examined by the most widely known system. They do offer a contemporary idioms option for students to be examined in a non-classical genre which the royal conservatory does not.

I think Conservatory Canada would be more popular if they offered exams at different times than the Royal Conservatory, ie. in April or November. They also have so many theory levels.

I wish you could sign up for an exam and complete it the following week. Instead, there's pressure to beat the clock and get all the sight reading, ear training, and technique finished. A student may get sick, or any number of things can throw out the plan.

Totally agree. How nice would it be to say "there- you're ready for your exam. Let's sign up" rather than "I hope you'll be ready and other parts of your life won't interfere...let's cross our fingers and commit to a date x number of months in advance!"
