Beautiful!! Congratulations! But, as regal as she looks, you should probably call her "Lady Edna of Essex" smile

Congratulations itsfreakingmeout. If that's a 123E, it is one of the best sounding uprights made.

The only thing preventing me from owning a Steinway & Sons produced piano, is Steinway & Sons Customer Service. They should work on that.

Fortunately the piano I want the most is sold by Steinway & Sons!
Unfortunately the piano I want the most is only sold by Steinway & Sons.

Congratulations!
Do you live in Northern VA? I think I might have played this same piano at the Steinway dealer, I was there in early May.
It is a nice piano indeed!

I think Essexes play above their price point. I haven't played the verticals, but the grands were eye-opening to me. I played one next to various grands - a new Knabe, a Yamaha, some other Chinese grands including Brodmann - and was pleasantly surprised.

I'm a little surprised they aren't mentioned here on the forums more. Some, including me, don't like Steinway's domination all that much. But the pianos play and sound just wonderfully IMO.

I think the MSRP of Essex is higher than other Chinese made pianos, so some say they aren't good value, but I found once you go into a dealer with the knowledge that Essex is made by Pearl River, then the Steinway dealer is more willing to aggressively price the Essex to represent a very good value. At the end of the day, I feel the higher quality comparable to new Ritmüller UH is worth 10% more than a run of the mill Pearl River but certainly not worth thousands more as suggested by the MSRP. This is why PW is a great place because I would not have otherwise been in a position to get a larger 48" Essex for the price of a smaller Yamaha P22 without PW.

The SMP listed in Pianobuyer is about 2k lower for an Essex upright than for the Ritmuellers, and 3k lower for the grands. Brodmanns are also higher than Essex. Essexes are only a few thousand more than the entry level Chinese pianos.
