So, I stumbled across this piano in a cyberstore, and I was wondering what's the deal with it.
I mean, the price is ridiculously low for a 52˝ piano (it only costs 3400€).
As far as I know Baldwin is a respected piano manufacturer and their pianos are pretty good, but now I'm having second thoughts, because of the low price.
Maybe I was just misinformed and Baldwin isn't such a good manufacturer after all?

I would assume that this is a Chinese piano, perhaps based on a Baldwin design. That would seem to be a reasonable price for a Chinese upright that size.

I could be wrong, but I think this is the Chinese made version of the Baldwin 6000 which was considered a very good upright. From what I've learned, the Chinese versions of the uprights that were previously made in the U.S. are very good. Same design specs, same materials, just put together in China.

Well...I presently have a preowned 90's American made Baldwin 6000E and it is an incredible piano sound wise. They called it their "concert vertical". Similar to the Steinway K52 except it has better bass. Only a few years back it retailed for $15,600 in ebony satin discounted for ? So...if the Chinese /Dongbei version is near as good than...it's a good deal but somehow I don't believe it is the case. I mean it is IS the case as for that American made hard rock maple heavy duty constructed sherman tank. grin

I played one 6000 a few years back. It was an amazing piano, but at the time was priced well over $10K. I paid less for my little Kawai grand than they wanted for that (admittedly wonderful) upright. I think, though, that the new ones are made in Baldwin's other plant in China (is it Zhongshan or something like that?) rather than in Dongbei.

A Baldwin dealer that I know and respect told me what happened after he got his first shipment of Baldwin 243's and 6000s that were made in China. His tech, who was prepping them didn't know they had come from China. The tech said something like, "Wow, these are really good, Baldwin's finally getting them right".

So, Vid W, I'd say check this piano out, and if you like it, get it. My local tuner says that the 6000 (BE-52) have a lot of potential in the hands of the right tech.

Keep us posted.
