Can anyone tell me how much a new Yamaha C3 is in Australia and how much I should/could pay for a 2nd hand Yamaha C3. I know it is hard to price a 2nd hand Yamaha due to all the variables however if for example a good 10 year old one.

I have been assuming that the US price taking into account the exchange rate would be the same as the Oz price however it appears that we are over DOUBLE the price which has totally thrown me into thinking that I cant afford one at all unless I import directly from America. Of which I have no idea about those costs either.

The reason I am asking is that Australia is a little bit backwards when it comes to small independent businesses having websites so reseach using the internet can be really hard work.

I really hope that any fellow Ozzies can help me out.

Thanks

Michelle

I should also mention that I have phoned my only local new dealer ($52k starting price) and my only local second hand dealer (no C3s but very helpful with other piano suggestions) and got prices however there is no competition for them and they do appear to be over priced a little I think.

Is the quote of $52K in US or Australian dollars? Using an exchange rate of 1 USD ~ 1.2 AUD, the price (if quoted in AUD) is about 43.3K USD. This is between the suggested retail price and suggested maximum price listed in www.pianobuyer.com. So for an initial quote, it may be within reason - but depending on your market, I would anticipate that there is some negotiating room.

Thanks DohaDoc,

They had a sale on a few weekends ago and were selling the C3 for AU$34,995. Thats seems like a massive discount or mark up depending on how you look at it.

Would this be a realistic price to try and negotiate?

Once again thank you

That comes to about USD $30k. It's in the ball park. Not too expensive, not too cheap. There's always room to negotiate!

Where in Australia are you? The price varies quite a bit depending on where you are. You may be able to buy interstate and still save a lot of money.

Cheers,
Greg

Im in Brisbane and thinking of heading down to Sydney for a couple of days to have a look around. There seems to be soooooo many more pianos available down there than up here.

My uncle lives in Brisbane and saved a few thousand by buying his GC1 from Sydney. If you're looking for a new C3, there's only two places in Sydney that sell them. There's Dickson's in Chatswood (www.dicksonsmusic.com.au) who will spend most of their time trying to sell you a Kawai instead, and there's Logans Pianos in Burwood (www.loganspianos.com.au).

There are a lot of second hand dealers in Sydney, but you'll need to be very careful with those guys. They can be a bit easy with the truth, and of course you'll need to have the pianos checked out. There are only a couple of shops in Sydney that I'd recommend.

Cheers,
Greg

The more I look around the more I think that second hand is the way to go. If I get down to Sydney and find a piano I like I will definitely have an independent specialist come in and have a look for me.

If you dont mind - who would you recommend or even stay away from in the world of dealers. PM me if you'd prefer. Im have another lesson tomorrow and Im going to ask my teacher to come with me to Sydney for a day. Fingers crossed she says yes.

Thanks Greg

Hi Michelle,

I've just been doing a bit of research on this myself and I'm in Melbourne. May I suggest that you try Prestige Pianos in Melbourne - they recently had 3 C3's all around 3 years old and ex warm-up pianos at the performing arts theatre. I checked them out and they were in great condition. Selling price was $26,900(AUD) and possibly a bit of room to negotiate.

Good luck

Michelle,
Suggest you contact Logans at Burwood (Sydney), biggest Yamaha dealer here.
I bought a C2 from them a year ago. They were cheaper than anyone else and good to deal with.
Even though you're not from Sydney, I think you'd be safe to buy from them, bearing in mind Yamaha's free initial tuning program
Good luck
