Hi everyone.

I just received my Casio PX-830 and noticed that some of its keys are not spaced evenly. Some are practically touching the adjacent key while others have noticeable gaps between them. The piano plays fine, so as of now, it's really only an aesthetic issue.

Do digital pianos normally have uneven key spacing? Should I return my piano?

I would return it myself... All the keys on mine look perfectly lined up and spaced. That doesn't sound right to me.

Send it back. Unless you don't mind. It would bother me.

I don't know about casios, but Yamaha keys pop off pretty easy, you could try reseating the ones that are a little off. It's more than asthetics, it looks like a few of those keys would actually bind on each other.

I've owned PX-330 and got these spaces after while too. Casio keys are a little bit loose to side movement when I compare to my actual yamaha GH action.

Also, reminds me gaps in the front teeth. If it were me, I would definitely return it. If they say thats normal, I would get another piano.

I have an early PX330 and all the keys have quite a bit of sideways movement. By comparison to most other makes of DP's they seem to be very loose with this sideways play. After several months use my keyboard now has a hotch-potch of gaps and non-gaps.

I read somewhere else that in later shipments of the product Casio have improved this. Maybe, I don't know. I intend to get my keyboard 'fixed' under warranty at some point before it runs out, but I also have a couple of noisy keys.

I would say if this bothers you, return it and buy from another manufacturer. Yamaha and Kawai keybeds seem good. The Roland too but they have a louder clunk and that might bother some people too.

Definately return the piano. The B and A keys below middle C are too close to each other. It looks like they could easily touch and cause sticking issues or clicking noise. This is lousy quality control and an area where Casio needs to improve IMO. To be fair here, there have been complaints like this on Korg SP-250 keybeds. All manufacturers have some defective product that gets out of the factory. If you like the PX-830 exchange it for another or consider some other brand of DP.

Some backlash is a normal. You can find it in any keyboard - both digital and acoustic. It not interfere to play if keys not press together while press one key

I'll probably return it (which will be a pain, no doubt). First, I'll call J&R, explain the problem, ask for free shipping, and make them assure that this problem will not happen again.

If any of you has returned a digital piano before, I'd love to hear your experiences. Will companies ever let you keep the stand and just return the piano? That would make my life much easier.

I've had something similar to this on some of my digital pianos,
including my present one. This is not a problem. The difference
in spacing is negligible and won't affect your playing. This is
a mass-produced electronic product that gives you what is essentially
a grand piano for a fraction of the cost of one, so you can't expect
perfection in something like this.

Just FYI, most 88 key acoustic pianos have a gap between the E and F above middle C, as a signal to where the true center of the keyboard is. So if there is a gap there, it may be built that way.
