If you can play one well you can play the other.... but comparing them is pointless. They both use completely different technique.

From someone who has not studied either of them, La Campanella seems more difficult, although they both are difficult pieces.

Oh, Rachmaninoff? I've never heard it called "Bells of Moscow" Prelude. How did Rachmaninoff get in here?

Are you comparing the difficulty of that Prelude with the Chopin Op 25 No 11 and/or Liszt's "la Campanella"?

Regards,

I was trying to find a funny answer to this "compare these pieces" question that has been asked so many times.

Winter Wind and Snow Drifts

Campanella(Bells) and Bells of Moscow

Since I've never played Winter Wind or La Campanella I can't comment on their relative difficulty - however I easily learned the Rachmaninoff when I was 13 - and Chasse-Neige (not so easily) 13 years later....and I can tell you that Chasse-Neige is infinitely more difficult than the Prelude.....which I believe is what Pianoloverus was trying to say....or perhaps not. smile

Whoops - Just read Pianoloverus' explanation.....

Never mind.

I'd never touch the Chopin.

La campanella is (very) difficult for its delicate skips and tricky double-note moments, it's musically rather superficial, whereas op.25/11 is technically a fiendish piece, both hands, and is musically a very proud statement, not to be hampered by technical failure, it's a ride in heck, for some to heck...one of the most difficult études by Chopin, la campanella is nothing compared to feux follets or Mazeppa, or op.10/2 for that matter...

I think I agree with you here. La Campanella has a delicateness of touch that is probably more difficult to execute... Although, as you say, both are at a very high level of course.

Not bad! Sorry I was too dense to "get" it!

Cheers!

Ive played both and i must say that after finishing La Campanella and going to 25 no 11 it was childs play smile . The main difficulty of La Campanella in tehnique are the thrillers and repetitions, but overall - the sound and touch and flowing over the technicality. Winterwind sits comftrobaly under your right hand in positsion, the nasty part is learning it , but even it has logic: chromatic down + I III V notes in 1 or 2 finger. Plus the music is not so refined and easier than in the Paganini.
