Between the two, I say Kawai. But this is only my personal preference.

Choose the piano YOU love!

(You could also forget them both and explore tier 2 pianos. They might not be THAT much more $$) wink

Good luck,

To me.. the Boston has the type of tone I enjoy. Rich, full and a lot of orchestration. The action is generally how I prefer an action to feel.. responsive, fast with above average dynamic range. I find the actions to be very easy to play quietly and tend to 'feel' a little firmer than the other quality Japanese makes. This is what I like..

If one were to only go by what they read in PW I sometimes wonder if their would be any other make besides Kawai around anymore. However this flies in the face to what we experience here in our market. Virtually all of our Boston clients shop Kawai and Yamaha, and we do very well against both, to say the least.

I would go by your personal preferences.. they are two very different pianos.. Both will last you decades and both will hold value well.. Buy the one that you prefer and buy from the dealer you have confidence in.

Musically Yours,
Jonathan Hunt

Actually I'm waiting to hear more about the reasons for the expressed preference.
