In a tragic series of events, the una corda pedal on my relatively cheap upright was cracked in half. I had it welded back together, but cannot figure out how to fit it back in! The pins on the side make it too wide to fit through the hole, and into the piano. The only thing I can see working is removing the padding around the hole, sticking it through, and then gluing the padding back down.. but I have no idea what glue to use and this seems risky. I don't really want to do this. But regardless of what I want, the dang thing still won't fit!

Does anybody have any ideas on what to do?

You have to remove the pin, which usually means tapping it with a hammer while supporting the pedal. Then comes the fun part - insert the pedal though the hole, then re-insert the pin, which usually means tapping it again only it's usually harder this time!

Or, you could tip the piano on it's back and remove the bottom board to expose the bottom of the pedal slot.

Removing and re-installing the pin is the easiest option.
