Sorry if this has been asked a million times before (couldn't locate topic in 'search'), but I'm thinking of getting a Kawai MP8II Pro Stage Piano, but I play mostly classical and need a sostenuto pedal. The MP8II only comes with two pedals. Does the soft pedal "convert" to sostenuto by some magic button? Asked Kawai techs, but haven't gotten a response yet.

If it doesn't have a sostenuto function, any recommendations for a DP that does have one? Do I have to get a wood cabinet number? I don't need a stage piano for touring, just practicing in a small space in my apt. Thanks for any help.

On my Yamaha and I think almost every other DP the second pedal has an assignable function. On the Yamaha there are about six things the second pedal can do one of them being sostenuto. (Others are soft, start/spot recording, expression or volume or even a second sustain pedal.)

How to set the pedal function should be in the user manual.

If you don't need to carry it around I suggest the Roland HP201.
I got one myself not too long ago, after testing out a lot of different DP's at stores.

It has sustain, sostenuto, and una corda pedals, so there's no need to switch pedal functions with some button whenever you need either.

It also had the best feel and sound I could get within my budget. smile

Aldous, yes, the left pedal can be set either as soft or sostenuto.

I just got the MP8ii, aldous. And yes, the second pedal is assignable as sostenuto.

Roland RD-700GX supports sostenuto.
