Hey, just wanted some opinions on the rep I've chosen for my undergrad audition coming up. It's for the UMass Amherst music program, only need two contrasting pieces.
Beethoven - Piano Sonata Op.31 No.3
Liszt - Funerailles.

Can I assume that "coming up" means soon? If that be the case, will opinions of others affect your choice of audition pieces? It sounds that you have chosen your pieces; why would you need opinions of that choice now?

Regards,

Yeah, very soon. But, it's always enjoyable to see what people have to say about pieces that I'm playing, just basically wondering if people thought that they were good choices, and if people have played them themselves. You know, just some discussion.

I've played your Beethoven before. It's a fun sonata to learn, particularly the scherzo. Getting it up to tempo was a bit hard to do though. Very rhythmical throughout.

Are you planning to play all four movements, or just one for the audition?

if you can make the schizophrenic difference between the 2 pieces very clear, it's a good combination, B's movement very crisp, with a lot of q's and a's, runs and trills and the rest of the classical works, fine, and L's gloomy picture with depth, lyricism, bravura and line(!), fine!

They only require one movement, so just the first.
