I am considering purchasing a 1988 White Kawai CX5 in "mint condition." The asking price is $3k. Ca someone tell me if this sounds reasonable?

Though the 42" Kawai CX5 is a better piano than the later 45" cabinet Kawai CX5H (which was assembled in the now defunct Carolina factory),it is overpriced at 3K. There were 2 actual CX5(s)one assembled in the US amd one assembled in the Hamamatsu factory in Japan.
The better,of course was the Japanese mdl.The Japanese mdl. had 2 pedals and reflected the Japanese serial #s. The US assembled version had 3 pedals and followed a different serial # database. It usually started with an "A". The Japanese serial # would be 1779000 to 1850000.
Before this mdl. was discontinued they peaked at $5000 retail so.... discounted, they sold for ? brand new.
Now, you know more than the seller.
You should post this thread in the Piano Forum,

I would say,$1500 for a pristine preowned one would be my "fair market apprasial" at present. But what do I know ? grin

Thank you for your response.

This is a Japanese-built model and the serial number starts with 182. It has a snow white finish. The seller is very knowledgeable but it still seemed like a lot to me, even reconditioned.
