I'm doing some seminars around Australia at the moment with Alfreds (they distribute Faber, so I'm the Faber element of the tour) and I've had a chance to take a close look at the new books Nancy Bachus has brought out with Alfreds (because Nancy is also a presenter in the day long seminar with me).

Have any of you in this forum been using her "Spirit of" series? Or her new "Exploring..." series? I love, love, love them, and just want to know if anyone else has had students enjoying them too......

Elissa,

I met Nancy Bachus in August 2004 when she was presenting her workshop on the "Spirit" catalog. I bought one of every book and enjoyed the detail and incredible completeness of her collection.

She was very engaging, friendly and consuming as a presenter to other music teachers.

After gaining some experience with the books, I wrote her a personal thank you letter to which she cordially responded.

I have not heard about the "Exploring" new releases yet.

I hope Nancy is having a great time in Australia and it's wonderful that the two of you should meet!

The lady is wonderfully authentic!

Betty, I'm so excited that you like these books too - you will LOVE her "Exploring" books - they are amazing - Technique linking up to Repertoire - there's honestly nothing like it out there.....

I first met Nancy back in 2005 (we were both at a conference together) and now I can hardly wait til we get another opportunity to see each other (and hopefully do some more seminars together). She is sensational.

I share your excitement, Elissa!

It would be so nice to meet you, too, in person!

Another one of my favorite people in the music education world is Mary Gae George - "Artistry in Music". Do you know of her work?

Your comments about your recent adjudications pleased me in that you take a proactive role in being an adjudicator. It is not just a chair to be filled by someone signing of certificates but a huge opportunity to say something really meaningful to a piano student and to his or her teacher. Saying something inspiring at an audition can be a message and memory that lasts a lifetime for a piano student.

Here's a link to one of the books: I even love that the Technique book has the walls half-painted, and with the artworks off the wall while the painting is going on, with ladders still up, but the Repertoire book has the walls perfectly painted, the artworks hanging on the wall and all the paint tools packed away!!

Betty - no I haven't come across Mary Mae George yet, but I've had little chance to get into music shops to browse in the past 4 years....! And I do hope that one day we can meet - I'm hoping to come to the US sometime in the next 3 years....
