Soooo after weeks and weeks of playing countless pianos by countless manufacturers, I've today agreed to purchase an Estonia 168!

It was my 2nd favorite piano of all the ones I played, after a brand-new Hamburg Steinway D which was rather out of my league. With only two dealers carrying Estonia in Germany, I didn't get the chance to try the 190, but I preferred this particular 168 #1755 to the Estonia concert Grand and every single Steinway A&B I played! The sound simply had that special, intimate tone that spoke to me on a very personal level.

Now I "just" have to wait for it to arrive later this month and the on-site intonation wink

...And after that begins the endless search for the perfect recording method for our recitals, of course!

Congrats! I bet it is going to be hard waiting! You'll have to post pics when it's delivered.

Congratulations Bunneh! I wish you many happy years of playing. The Estonia gets great reviews and I look forward to hearing it in the next recital thumb

Well done! We don't have large rooms in our house, so if I were in the market (and, Heaven help me, some day I will be) this smaller Estonia would definitely be on my list. There is a used one down the road at Cordogans, but I haven't had the temerity to go play it. I'm afraid I will fall in love with it. Don't see many used Estonias.

Congratulations!!!! I continue to dream about a grand piano. I often take an hour off at work and scroll through Craig's list looking for used grand pianos. I have been caught so many times that my research assistants know my desire and have begun to look for me too smile

Estonias have a warm mellow sound that is very nice. I remember just a few years ago when I narrowed down my list of grand piano possibilites the two Estonias listed were amongst the top few. The only problem which ultimately kept me from purchasing was lack of a single dealership in my state. After reading time and time again on how important it is to have a good relationship with your dealer, I decided to go with another brand probably for that reason alone.

I've only heard increasingly positive things about Estonia over the years and can only think they would be even bigger with better representation. Bigger is not always better however!

Congrats on a fine piano.

I can only speak about European prices - List price including 19% VAT is ~€23k for the 168, street price seems to be about 18k-19k negotiated. I paid closer to 10k than 20k (barely) because the dealer was moving location and got rid of stock at near to wholesale level. Even 19k for a 168 is a steal compared to other offerings in that size, in my opinion.

However, I am absolutely convinced that my price was a one-time chance, which is why I bought it before even trying the 190 - although I preferred this particular 168 #1755 to the Estonia concert Grand there anyway, like I said in my original post smile It's a gorgeous little piano!

Now, if only it were delivered and prepped already...

"Later this month". Just how long do we have to wait for. . . pictures?!?

(Never mind the tuning and recording methods.)

Congratulations, enjoy!

Congratulations Bunneh, great choice. thumb

You will now have years to discover all the subtleties, shades, harmonies that only a grand can produce.

I wish You all the pleasure in the world with it.

P.S. don't forger the pictures.

Cheers

Thanks for all the well-wishing and congratulations smile
I am not sure if the wait is still in "pleasurable anticipation" territory and didn't slip over into agony... Anyway, I discovered this marvelous recording of an Estonia 168 (not mine), easily the best recording of this piano I've seen yet.

I am already planning my own recording setup for our recitals, even though I don't even have the piano yet... blush
