I have a question for the pro’s here, or anyone else interest in responding… is a 6’7” Kimball grand from the late 1970’s a decent piano? (Of course, I know that condition is everything.)

There is one for sale not too far from my location and I was just wondering. I’ve been semi-interested in purchasing a pre-owned semi-concert grand recently.

Thanks in advance for any comments/advice!

Rick

It could be, if this is one of the Vienna models. They may need a bit of work, but the basic design was sound.

I sold and worked on many of these during that period. After Kimball's acquisition of Bosendorfer they touted the Viennese Classic Edition of their 6700 series grands that they claimed were derived from the Bosendorfer model 200. There were some plate casting similarities, but that is where the comparison stopped.

Kimballs were always known for their durability, but also their somewhat mediocre performance. There are some who really like(d) these pianos and swore by them. There was an evolution of the model series from 6710, 6760, 6780, then to 670P. Model and serial can be found on a plate affixed to the inside of the long side rim, just beside the front most hinge.

Wow, thanks for the fast response, gentlemen!

The piano is listed on eBay. The dealer is in Macon and I’ve exchanged a couple of emails, but haven’t looked at the piano. I'm still in the "thinkin about it" stage.

Here is the listing.

Kimball semi-concert grand

Thanks again!

Am I reading the ad correctly that it is a piano dealer selling this piano with NO warranty?

If true, that's a big waving red flag.

I agree with Eric Gloo. Why wouldn't the Dealer offer some sort of Warranty?

I smell fish.
