Where does Young Chang Pramberger (5’2” Young Chang Pramberger Signature Series Classic Grand (baby) piano (model PG-157) fit on Larry Fines consumer grade piano list? I can find Samick Prambergers and Y.C.s but not Y.C. Prambergers? Its advertised on Craigs List as " The piano – serial number YG0130538 - was purchased new in 2000 with 5 yrs. warranty remaining. " for $7,700 asking price.

Is it worth going for a listen/play evaluation?
( Currently trying to decide between Hailun 161 and Essex 5ft. 1 but keeping eye out for last minute used bargain.

The Samick version and the YC version are comparable.

$7000??? They must be kidding. You can buy a new one for less!

FYI - The 2001 Piano Book rated the Young Chang Pramberger models in the same overall category as the Boston, Kawai RX and Yamaha C series. In other words, they were considered to be a good quality, consumer grade instruments. The $7,700 asking price might a tad high - but if the piano is in good condition $6,500 to $7,000 might be a fair price.

This thread is a mess! The opening poster's question is about a grand, and it's resale value.

The PG by Young Chang was the Pramberger influenced Young Chang piano and in 2000, had an approximate retail price of $13,000. The question as to its value now can be answered by comparing its quality to what is availabe today and for what price.

The Pramberger name has been used by two rival Korean companies. First Young Chang on their pianos, and now Samick has its turn to use this name on theirs, all the way down to their entry-level pianos from Indonesia. Other than by name, the pianos themselves are not very similar. Pricing has come under pressure as there are other value alternatives on the market today.

Steve, I'm so glad you clarified this - I was really wondering what any upright models had to do with this subject and thought you might be going crazy.

I suppose this makes my previous post unnecessary.
