I just bought a used (obviously) Kawai MP9000 that's missing pedals. I understand it original came with Kawai F2 dual pedals but I guess those aren't in production anymore. Can the newer Kawai F20 work? Anyone have a used dual pedal setup that'll work for me for sale? Thanks.

According to the pedal compatibility chart I have here, the F-20 can indeed be used with the MP9000.

The only pedal you need to be weary of is the most recent F-10H. This uses an optical sensor and will therefore not work with the analogue-only MP9000.

Cheers,
James

what are you talking about kawai? optical sensors are analog just like rheostats, they change from closed circuit, half for half pedaling (I think that's 10k?) and open circuit, but some of the sustain pedals are open circuit in the up position, others are open in the down, and generic sustain pedals that work with all keyboards have a little "polarity" toggle

I thought the f10h was an expression/volume control instead of a regular on/half/off sustain pedal, which is why its different

edt, the F-20 double pedal unit utilises an analogue sensor in order to detect half-pedalling, while the F-10H single pedal uses a more modern optical sensor to achieve the same functionality. Both are standard damper/sustain pedals.

The expression/volume pedal that you're referring to is the V-20X.

Cheers,
James

exactly. None of the pedals are digital. and you could use two f10h's to sub for a dual f20 if you wanted because that's all the f20 is, an expression pedal. at least that's what I thought, I dont have a f20 to test with an ohm meter. optical vs rheostat doesnt matter, except the optical is smoother.

trasher could buy any random generic dual pedal or even a different manufacturer and it would work as long as the "polarity" (more accurately whether or not the circuit is closed pedal up or down) is correct, or has a toggle to choose.

No, I don't believe that would work.

The F-10H utilises an optical sensor and will therefore only function with instruments that are designed to use it: the MP5, ES6, and EP3.

The F-10 (without the 'H') does not utilise an optical sensor (it doesn't support half-pedalling), and can therefore be used with all DPs.

You could potentially use two F-10 units simultaneously, however this is still not quite the same as an F-20, as there will be no half-pedalling functionality.

No, the F-20 is a damper/sustain pedal.
The V-20X is an expression pedal.

Here's a picture to illustrate:

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Cheers,
James

What KAWAI James means is apparently that the F-10H sends more than on/off to the sustain plug, so it might not be compatible with keyboards that only allow on/off functionality of the sustain pedal. I had the same problem with mit old Fatar Studiologic and a damper pedal specificially designed for a GM Realpiano sound module, that one didn't work directly on the Fatar, only when plugged into the GM expander.

Thanks for all the informative replys. Where else can I buy the Kawai F-20 pedals besides Musiciansbuy, or is that the only or best place? Any recommendations pro/con about Musiciansbuy? I know nothing about them, hence the questions.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but on eBay this week there's this CASIO SP30R DIGITAL PIANO PEDAL. The seller says it's "Intended for Casio PX110, PX120, PX310, PX320 or PX200 digital piano."

Is this an analog pedal that will work with my MP9000? It's considerably cheaper (at the current bid price is) than a new Kawai F-20 pedal which is why I'm interested.

Thanks for any info.
