Hi all,
I bought a grand C2 3yrs ago. Now I want to trade in to a better one. Should I buy a C3 or the near top C7?
I got a good quote sale price about 23k & 35k brand new condition. The margin is not that much so if I try not to buy a new car then I can squeeze my budget to go all the way to C7! Also my living can fit in the C7. I have checked out the C3,C5,C6, C7,& S6. They all sound really great to me over the C2. The S6 is out of my budget. So what is your opinion about C3 compare to C6 & C7?
It's kind of hard to choose but I'm very attempting to go all the way to C7 so I won't regret & thinking about another one for 10yrs.
I'm a electronic keyboardist and I have my girl 6 yrs old is working on piano lessons now so it will be years ahead.
If you have experienced with any C3 to C7 model, I would really appreciate your input & opinion.
Thanks all!

The C5 and especially C7 is vastly superior to the C3.

You got the room and you got the budget? The bigger teh better.

You should try an S6 before you buy the C7. But between the C3 and C7 the 7 by a bunch.

Bigger is better in grand pianos. My favorite Yamaha scale is the C6. To my ear just a touch warmer that those above and below.
The majority of the higher level players I work with like the C7 the best.
The bigger the piano the more projection that will be engineered into it. The smaller the piano the more compact and collected the tone will be for the player.
IMO there is no quality difference in the Yamaha models C3-C7, just the benifits size offeres.

Why don't you get a C6?

You can get one for under $30k, by the way.

The C7 is a highly refined version of the C3, an excellent piano in its own right (yeah, I just say that 'cause I own one!)

Between the two, get the C7. You've got the money and the space, so go for it.

I had a C3 for 25 years.

C6 and C7 are much better pianos....

S6 is my preferred model by Yamaha by I could live with a C6 or a C7.

I would be very unhappy to go back to a C3

Good luck !

C7 all the way! I own one and am thrilled with it. Personally I think the difference between the C3 and C7 is enormous, but I do also rate the C3 highly - and actually play it more often in gigs than the C7.

Good luck!

The difference between a C7 and C2 is much greater than a C3 and C2. If you get the C3 you'd regret having not gone the distance.

As a C7 owner of one year and having played all the "C's" up to the 7 I would urge you to go for the C7. It is a fine fine instrument you won't look back one with any regrets yet if you buy a lesser C you may always wonder.

If your car is reasonably reliable, why would you choose a new one instead of getting a C7? They're churning out cars every day, but a piano is something you'll have for (likely) the rest of your life. Get the best one you can.

C3 or C7??? There's not much to think about: C7.

And in my twisted face... there's not the slightest trace of anything that even hints at kindness...

Thanks for all of your opinions. Over sunday I came close to pick one between C6 & C7. The C6 sounds so nice and very smooth. The key touch is much lighter and so control compare to the C7. The C7 have heavier key touch because it's bigger and longer hammer as the saleman told me. Anyway, I think the C7 requires much bigger open space than the C6 otherwise it won't do enough justice for its size. I'm debating between the two and also about how to arrange my room so it has better open space for either the C6 & C7 otherwise it won't be sound right if I squeeze it straight to the wall corner. When the store put the C7 so close to the wall corner it wasn't sound good compares to the C6, so I asked them to move it out to open space then it really shine especially when I step on the sustain pedal! Anyway, the sound quality & quantity of the C6 & C7 are unbelievable good. I need to focus in sound quality, feel, and make good selection for either the C6 or C7. I'm in the negotiation process right now, so I will keep posted soon! It's not easy for the new toy.

I've just seen this old post. Which one did you buy?! There's such a huge difference between the two, surely?!

The Yamaha C5 is a very nice piano as well. I have one and love it. It's a lot of piano for the space it takes up which is not much at 6'7".

My advice is always to get the largest you can afford. I've played both C6 & C7 and they're both great.

C6 and C7 grands are both excellent pianos.

From my experience they are a whole notch above their smaller counterparts, notwithstanding the fact that any of those can and often are also be very good pianos.

Happy choosing!
