Hi.
I would like to create a new topic on instruction DVDs.

Anyone who has experienced with ANY instruction DVDs (DVDs that teach you how to play piano in any styles), please leave some comments on them. Here are some infos that you should give when you post, so everybody knows which particular DVDs you are talking about.

Title of the DVDs:
Styles of music:
Good or Bad, and why?:
Other comments (if you have ones):

For me... I have just bought one (only one... but I think I will buy more in the future). It is on a gospel style. Apparently I have not yet finished watching them, so I don't want to give my comments yet. However, I am eager to know about others. I will give my comments once I am done with it.

Hope this thread would benefit people in this forum (or at least, I know I will definitely benefit from it)

I particularly enjoyed the Chick Corea Keyboard Workshop DVDs (actually I have them on VHS:)) These are for a more advanced player. I particularly liked the section on the 'ten drummers' where you think of using your fingers as each a separate drum. It really opened up my way of thinking and playing percussively. It also shows some cool clips of his band which is always fun to watch.

Comments: Read Above

If you are looking for more instructional DVDs for beginning/intermediate levels of play, I've broken down two of them here:
http://www.lessonrating.com/learn-and-master.html
http://www.lessonrating.com/the-piano-system.html

In any case, I would argue that finding the right teacher will help you learn the most effectively. Of course finding the RIGHT teacher is easier said than done.

Hope this helps:)

Good or Bad, and why?: Excellent! You hear the music, see the notes, see the hands, and get comments on fingering etc.
Other comments (if you have ones): You can watch almost all of it on his web site on on youtube.

This will be my main focus for several years.

David Cohen Blues Piano vol 1
5 Stars
Here is someone who knows how to break things down so you can keep up.

Learn to Play Gospel Piano- Ethel Cafie-Austin.
5 Stars.
Dr. Ethel knows how to build an arrangement in steps I learned a lot about how to teach from this DVD. Plus Ethel rocks.

I agree with previous post about David Cohen Blues Vol 1 & 2 DVD's. That's how I got started on the piano.

Thanks for this info! I looked at the site and determined that it is an incredible value. I ordered it via PayPal and the same day, got an email from Doug saying he was shipping the DVD that day. It should be here in a week. To me, this looks like looking over an accomplished player's shoulder in a variety of musical situations. It isn't a method, but a very valuable supplement to whatever one is learning, as long as it involves playing some derivative of jazz piano.
