Please give some opinions on buying a brand new
Casio px330
or
Roland rp101 ( although being discontinued supposedly mimics the truer sound of piano strings. to the point of the hammer striking the string )
Does a Casio do this also?
Couldn’t find that anywhere in the Casio manual.

any info appreciated.

Opinion will vary. I'm more of a fan of the Roland sound. Roland does not sound more "real" but hard to describe, Roland just has it's own sound.

Also compare the key actions, find out which you like

Listen to some examples on this site. They have hundreds. Maybe not exactly the models yo want but get an idea of how each brand sounds

I like Rolands generally but the Casios sound pretty good on the demos I have seen.

Check out YouTube...user MusikSchmidt...they have an English language demo of the Casio PX-330 with decent stereo sound from the line out...sounds good.

Casio samples Steinway I believe. They now have competitive specs with 128 note polyphony and I believe four dynamic levels to their sample. Some people have had problems with Casio key actions but this wouldn't put me off if I liked the feel of it...you will need to check them out for yourself in this regard.

Good luck,

Steve

Well between these two, the Roland is the higher quality piano, and will cost more to buy. The Casio is a decent digital piano, at an attractive price. Dollar for dollar, the Casio offers more features for the money. The PX-330 is a bargain for what is on it. But the Casio's are built to a price and may have flaws in the piano sample and keyboard action that annoy you. You have to judge the touch between both for yourself. The Casio's generally have a heavier touch. Some people don't like the action on some of the Rolands complaining that the keys bottom out too quickly. Touch is probably the single most important thing next to piano sound so be sure and play whatever you are considering buying.

Thank you for suggesting purgatorycreek.com as a source of dp piano samples.
Unfortunately, the problem is that all samples are recorded directly into the computer, by-passing the built-in speakers (when they are available).
All sounds clip look quite similar, and all look good. But in real life, especially with a house console digital piano, you deal with the built-in speakers, and they make a lot of difference.
