Hi All,

This may well be a futile question but I figured it's worth throwing out there!

I'm about to move into a new apartment, and am trying to work out how I will arrange my studio and Roland RD-700GX DP.

I have a computer based studio at the moment with reference speakers on my desk, on the outside of my 2 LCD monitors. My *ideal* setup would be to have the DP situated at correct height in front of me, (with the lcd monitors & speakers behind it), but I also would love to have the keyboard and mouse at an ergonomically correct height/position in front of me too. I've considered one of those keyboard/mouse trays - but I've never actually used one of them before and am not sure how solid they are - has anyone used those? Has anybody come up with some sort of workable solution to this type of scenario before? To be able to have both DP and mouse/keyboard ergonomically correct, without sacrificing the other?

I've been searching for a good answer to this, too...

I don't like the trays due to not being able to really
rest your arms on the thing.
The tray might get in the way of your knees, too...

What I'm using at the moment is a little tray above
the midi keyboard as in

That's for when I'm writin' code and not practicing.

During piano prac, keyboard rests on top midi keyboard.
And mouse sits on bottom midi keyboard.

Next thing I'm gonna try (eventually) is a
deeper qwerty keyboard shelf that rests partially
on the top midi keyboard (deeper than it
sits now).

Then I'll have a comfortable spot for my arms to rest
while typing.


Other than that, keyboard at right angle to keyboard...
But that's awkward, too...

hmmm, maybe a tray to support keyboard,mouse.
But not on an arm...

One that sets over the bottom midi keyboard.
And then can be SOMEhow mounted above
for piano practice...

I think the only way is to put them at right angles to each other.

Also remember that many computers do fine with more then one USB keyboard/mouse plugged in. I've learned to use a mouse in either hand equally well so that giv more flexibilty in placement too.

You can place the LCD monitors or even a full 27" iMac on wall mounts or arms and not need desk space. Same for monior speakers

Yeah - my current set up is having them at right angles to each other. I'm thinking this may be the only solution.

The issue with this is that you really need the audio monitors to be behind the DP for ideal setup (when you're playing a piano, the sound comes from in front of you), but when writing music etc in my studio, I sort of need the audio monitors to be in front of me as I face my keyboard/mouse/screens. I guess you can't really have the best of both worlds?! Dilemna! I could always get some more speakers but that seems like an expensive solution.
