The dealer claims its the most prestigious upright piano in the world considering its relatively reasonable price comparing to Yamaha or Petrof, say a toyama of USD27OO can come close to a yamaha worth USD5000. Is that true ?? I am a self taught player who just want to have fun in my leisure time and so would like to opt for an inexpensive one, is there any other good suggestion ?

I hope someone responds here because I have never heard of this "most prestigious piano in the world". I am sure that is just a sales spin, but hopefully others will give you a good idea as to the quality of this particular piano.

Maybe they are just referring the retail price group(from their perception) that you can get that upright for... "Most prestigious piano in the world". My opinion, probably not.

The vertical is a Chinese piano, produced in Shaghai, if my sources are correct.
Welcome to "Sales Spin 101".
The piano is not in the same league as a Japanese Yamaha, or even a Korean Young Chang.

Venus, There's a brief mention of Toyama in the thread "Buying a New Piano in China." The thread can be found around page 4 of the Piano Forum. Or just use the search function and type in "Toyama." Sounds like you are getting pure sales spin. Just like, "Hyundai is the most prestigious automobile in the world." Some people may believe that, but the vast majority don't. P.S. Is that your picture, Venus? Nice smile!

What Toyama models are you talking about? Baby grands or uprights? I played on a Toyama 4'8" model yesterday. For some reason this instrument was quite pleasing to the ear and to the touch. I can't figure this as I know it's a cheap stencil production line piano from China. I cannot recommend Toyama as I don't know much about the brand, but the one I played yesterday made me perk up and I've tried Yamaha GB series recently. As far as it be the best piano in the world--that's b.s.

Toyamas are the main brand made by Parsons in China.
One of China's best piano maker, especially grands.
They also make Brodmanns and a few others.
How they stack up against each other, can't tell.
Not surprised they hold their own against Japanese, certainly anywhere near same price point.
Record shows they've become a major force on market and expected even more so in future.
These are the facts.

Sounds like a tall yarn from a salesperson. Have never seen or heard one, can't imagine they stack up to Yamaha or Kawai.

Having tried some of their uprights in Parson piano stores in Hong Kong, I would say they are .....er..... ok .... at their prices.
