16 recitals... WOW I'm old enough to remember the very first one! smile

Loved the practice battle days. Good times.

Hello, I wouldn't remember you because I’m new myself to the forum.
I am glad you posted that comment about “Croatian Rhapsody” though,- I looked up the music on you tube and was emotionally charged by piano playing on the video ( and more).

I am going to try to learn it , although it may be beyond my ability now . Did you ever complete it?
Wouldn’t mind seeing a vid of that performance.
Thanks

Cheers!!!

Hi Matt. I didn't know you from the "old days" as I am new too (about a year). I remember seeing your post on the other forum and have watched your youtube videos. Wonderful and excellent playing!

So here is a "hi, nice to meet you." smile

Pianonewbie1, somewhere in the archives there is a massive thread describing a study group we had at one time to learn Croatian Rhapsody. Here's what makes it hard: the tempo is devilishly fast (at least for me, where 'dreamy new age' is my preferred temp); there's a bridge section with a wickedly difficult rhythm; and then you repeat the fast main theme in a new key that has something like 4 sharps, if I remember correctly. eek

In short, it kicked my butt. I got the first section down basically okay and pretty much at tempo; even managed to learn the tricky rhythm section; but when it came time to the key change, things fell apart and I couldn't get that last section up to tempo--almost like there was too much interference from learning it in the first key. bah mad

But, like you, the piece captivated me, and I am DETERMINED to learn it well one day. thumb

pianonewbie1 - thanks for the video of "Croatian Rhapsody" - 1st time I've ever heard this and it's an exciting piece of music - excellent playing by the pianist, and the violinists were incredible (and they played well too laugh ).

I'm glad you enjoyed the video, John. To me, it brought back all sorts of nightmares (I took part in the study group and like many others, had to give up).

Maybe we should do a new group? For those who got defeated first time around, and those new to the piece.

Hello , Monica and John
I just learned “Titanic Love Theme” that also has a key signature change; but a very slow tempo and “flowing” tempo.
The key sig changes from f major to G maj (with f,c,g sharped).
It wasn’t difficult to learn because it added strongly the “sepia effect” (what I call it -the old reminiscent sound) to the last passages of the music.
Making the effort to learn it a interesting musical challenge.
I figure If I could learn that ,maybe then this too.
I'll give myself a 3 weeks try at it. -then evaluate to see if I need to move onto something else, and come back to it again after more practicing of other music.
.
John -
BTW I liked the violinists in the video too , their persona and style was modern AND classy. (combo not seen alot).
just..Impressive

Cheers!!!

Euan - I wish I could but I'm far too busy on other pieces right now - but maybe some time in the future. However, you might be interested in the "Cristofori's Dream" study group now being solicited in the current thread by ShiroKuro.

Been there, tried it, gave up on that one too! (that was a couple of years ago)
Think I shall try the Croatian Rhap. first, then maybe Cristofori's Dream later in the year.
