Hi all!

I have noticed that the section about digital pianos on the English-language Wikipedia is extremely lacking. What is needed most are images of instruments. The few that are there (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Digital_pianos) don't cover a very wide range of the market. Wikipedia is the top hit for "digital piano" in Google, so it's pretty sad there's so little material about DPs on there right now.

Therefore I was curious if anyone of you had pictures of their DPs to share which would qualify for upload to Wikipedia. Images for Wikipedia should show the entire DP without custom accessories like speakers attached, so photos from existing threads on this forum would not be very suitable. Also, express permission of the author to use the image must be given.

So if you have images to share (especially more high-end stuff like Clavinovas, RD-700, FC4/FC7, V-Piano, AvantGrand, the various Yamaha stage pianos, etc.), please send them to mdoege@gmail.com together with the attribution you want. Or upload them yourself at http://commons.wikimedia.org/. Tag any uploads with "digital pianos" and make sure the file name lists the exact model number. (Here's a step-by-step guide for uploading content yourself.)

Thanks!
Martin

Wouldn't it be easier to grab photos from the manufacturers' web sites?
Every make and every model would be available.
Opinions?

Side note ... If you need digital photo retouching assistance, I can help.

Most images taken from manufacturers' web sites are all copyrighted, so Wikipedia can't use them. They have to be free images.

Exactly. Flickr would be another option, but I think images there are mostly copyrighted. And the few which aren't have already been uploaded the Wikimedia Commons (e.g., the Clavinova picture).

Finding free, high-quality photos of digital pianos on the Web is surprisingly difficult.

Thanks, but the P-85 is what I have myself, so that's the one DP model that's already covered:

Martin, I know you're a Yamaha fan, however I may be able to provide some KAWAI images, if desired.

Cheers,
James

James, that would be fantastic! I just listed some models off the top of my head, and of course Casios, Kawais, and all the other brands are very welcome too.

If Yamaha was smart, they'd simply provide a few images to Wikipedia themselves, because this is free advertising for them after all. This is one of those cases where a smaller company like Kawai has a definite advantage over larger ones like Casio or Yamaha.

It would also be nice to get a photo or illustration of a digital piano action for the piano action article. I know the designs vary a lot between manufacturers, but Kawai would be particularly interesting because they use wood instead of plastic.

Martin, a high resolution version of the action image in this brochure perhaps?

Cheers,
James

I don't really see an image of the action in this owner's manual. Are you sure the link is correct?

But yes, generally for photos high-res PNGs are best, and for drawings SVGs or PDFs (i.e., vector graphics), although a high-res bitmap would also work.

One can use Flickr's advanced search to find only images licensed under Creative Commons, e.g.: http://www.flickr.com/search/?l=cc&mt=all&adv=1&w=all&q=digital+piano&m=text

Those images are mostly useless: Resolution too low / watermarked / odd angles or framing / no indication which brand and model it is, etc.
