Alrighty, got my new piano all set up for recording now! I'm really diggin' it, I can play like garbage and it still sounds great. smile

I just recorded a couple of short little pieces on it, both from the videogame Final Fantasy VIII (they're used as background music during certain scenes).

Here are the links:
Final Fantasy VIII - Roses and Wine
Final Fantasy VIII - Julia

Let me know what you think of the sound, I recorded it straight from the DP to the computer.

The piano has pretty nice dynamic range, in Roses and Wine I didn't use any edits or effects to fade out at the end of the piece, that was strictly me playing softer. Though I have to really concentrate to control the dynamics like that, I have a bad tendency to just hammer things at out equal volume sometimes. whome

Edit:
It looks like box.net is having some problems today, if it says "Load Playlist Error" when you try and play it just try again later or save the file and play it that way.

Hey thanks. I took lessons as a kid and then started practicing again last year (like 16 years later). That's a pretty common story I've seen around here.

I liked the ones you uploaded, especially "Julia." Very pretty and relaxing. I've never played FF, but it kind of reminded me of the music from "Twin Peaks" a little.

I've been absent for a while! (It's probably since I started taking lesson in September.) The bar is getting really popular!

My first recital is today. I didn't play as well as I did at the practice. frown

I recorded this 3 hours after the recital. It is one of the pieces I played, Burgmuller's The Limpid Stream. The stream is kind of "muddy" in the middle. But I just want to share anyway. (So don't click because your ears might get itchy. :P ) Comments and tips are always welcome. I'll try again after a good night sleep.

http://www.box.net/shared/48rvckzmmz

This won't stop me from the next recital. (I will choose the piece with the slowest tempo I can find! grin )

Uh oh, Tiny, I think some of the mud may have mixed with some of the electrons somewhere. There is some sort of error trying to listen to it. (maybe on my end, dunno) confused

Thanks for posting again - great!. I love the bar! (and not just for the music! grin )

The downside, of course, is that I get to hear so much great stuff, and stuff I want to learn eventually. The "to learn" list just keeps getting longer and longer. laugh

Bill - the fat Elvis piece was so poignant - made me sigh smile

Another Schmoe - the Roses was lovely.

ladypayne and Augustina - a great old traditional tune. I hear it for contra dances still sometimes.

Tinyhands - that was a fun piece.

BenPiano - I like the "Baroque to modern" in this - well done.

Thanks, bar-ers - I've been swamped with work lately, and it's nice to have a place to sneak off to sometimes for a little, uh, R&R smile

Rickster - another fine piece you've written. Are you putting together a CD?

Another - very enjoyable set of tunes

Sean - excellent A-min Chopin waltz. Great interpretation

Tiny - Burgmuller was great

Ladypayne - Liked the duet. Such good practice to play with someone else

Ten - great Barrelhouse Blues - what fun you have playing those!!

yoyo - sounds like you've been very busy. Wonderful selection of tunes

A fantastic January Piano Bar...for sure thumb

Hi folks,

I finally got an almost decent record of the beethoven's sonatina anh 5 I was working on, and I want to post it to end this january piano bar for me with the piece I think i had started in the first place. This time I'd like to share both first and second part. Hope you enjoy it, this is the best playing I can do right now!

al-mahed,
That was a very well-played Beethoven ~~ excellent, in fact!

You are an inspiration to practice more regularly and diligently. In my case, too much playing and not enough practicing, that is for sure.

It is very different doing this when you can see that little red light come on! You can hear a couple of things falling to the floor as I was playing - the first one at 1:09 even seemed to have awakened me.

Just chiming in with a quiet, relaxing little Chopin piece. Just recorded it earlier today. It's very short though, barely over a minute long, but it's a nice one to put on loop and wind down to, quite soothing. Anyways, hope you enjoy!

Chopin - Prelude Op. 28 No. 7

Video is in my signature if you're interested.

Hey! That's the very piece I was planning on doing next for the piano bar! You beat me to the punch! smile

...and set the bar high. I like your recording very much. You do a very good job of bringing out the parts that I like best about that prelude.

Glen, that was beautiful. I didn't know you do classical too!

Schmoe, another lovely one. You played it sensitively and in control.

Thanks Sean! By all means, don't let me stop you! I await your performance with great anticipation. smile

Edit:
Thank you also TLT!

It's comments like these that make everything worth it.

PS:
If anyone is still trying to access the Julia recording from the other page, you'll get an error message. I removed the previous recording and put up a new one (I played it a little slower this time, I like it better), here's the new link:

Final Fantasy VIII - Julia

How about a few more recordings while we're at it? All of these were done within the last several days:

Chopin - Prelude Op. 28 No. 15 "Raindrop"
Chopin - Waltz No. 19 in A Minor
Nino Rota - The Godfather Waltz
Chrono Cross - Arni Village (Another World)

The last one is also from a Playstation 1 videogame, that came out in the year 2000. A lot of great music in that game. Thanks for listening! Again, videos for all recordings are in my signature if anyone is interested.

Thank God you all posted your a Minor waltzes in the bar... That way my A minor waltz will have less competition in the recital laugh

Just kidding, those were all very nice performances, thank you all for sharing. Gave me some ideas for interpreting mine.

Coming to the end of my 'blues month', and one last contribution.

This is from Tim Richard's Improvising Blues Piano. The first chorus is 'Syncopated Boogie' and the 2nd chorus takes the RH from 'Happy Blues' and puts it over the LH of Syncopated Boogie. The 3rd chorus is Syncopated Boogie, but in 3rds instead of 6ths. Enjoy! smile

TLT,

Thanks for the comment on Bach.

Your blues playing is getting really good. Great driving left hand and fun synchopation.

It sounds like you enjoy playing it as much as I do listening to it, tapping my foot, bobbing my head. What fun!

Oops, meant to post this one last night but guess I forgot...

I made this recording 5 days ago, but while we're on the preludes:

Chopin - Prelude Op. 28 No. 20

My dynamics could've used a little more control on the third passage (should have been a little softer) but I didn't realize it until I listened to myself play, at which point I didn't really feel like making another recording. whistle

Another Schmoe, I checked out some of your other YouTube recordings. Our repetoir overlaps by, I'd say, 75%. That's some fine taste in music you've got there.
