I have a keystation 88es midi keyboard. I cannot get it to make any sound when connected to my computer. I've tried it with the Live software that came with it as well as Piano Marvel. With either program I can tell the keyboard is connected because indicators on the screen show it, but no sound. Please help!

I just read that this is a Vista PC. I don't know anything about Windows. But in general the way you figure this out is to divide the problem into smaller problems.

Some things to try..

Does sound work at all. Can you play music using iTunes oover the PC's speakers. Don't do anything else until you get this working

Can you play a MIDI file?

Can you play sounds from the computer keyboard?

You may have to fiddle around the in Sound portion of the Control Panel. I'm not familiar with the software you are using to record the MIDI file, but you will want to look at the setting for MIDI Out to make sure that is going somewhere to hear it.

I am not familiar with Abelton Live, but if you are seeing the meter move when you play your keyboard, you seem to have the input set correctly.

Have you selected a vst instrument on the track, and if so, is there an option to set the output, or monitoring path?

There may be a small loudspeaker icon which you need to click on, to enable the output for monitoring as you play.

Also check any 'options' or 'preferences' tabs, to see if there are options for selecting the audio output.

It is a USB connection. According to the very limited information that came with the keyboard it sends the MIDI signal trough both the MIDI port and USB at the same time
