I'm a beginner pianist looking for a new DP... I want a good piano with 3 pedals and all, and good key action, but I want to play with HEADPHONES. I don't need good speakers. What piano in this price range outputs the best sound through headphones, but also has an authentic feel? I'm looking at the px-130 but it seems.. flimsy. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I generally suggest the Yamaha P-85 with the optional stand and three pedal unit that attaches firmly to the latter.

Sounds great through headphones, not too bad through it's own speakers, offers a weighted 88-note, graded hammer action that's not too firm, nor too light.

I recommend this instrument because of my own experience with it over the last two years, whereby it has received lots of use, and still works as it did when I bought it.

The P-85 is one of Yamaha's best entry level instruments and one of the most popular as well...it's so good, in fact, that I bought another one for dedicated controller duties.

You'll get lots of suggestions about other pianos, but you can rest assured that my recommendation comes from personal experience, and also from the fact that I wouldn't suggest an instrument I wouldn't use myself.

I'll second snazzy's choice. P-85 specs don't look all that impressive on paper anymore, but in actual play (especially action feel) it's better than many newer models in the price range, and it's a proven product in terms of durability.

You can rest assured that my recommendations come by way of the Sugarplum Fairy, who visits me in dreams each night. grin

Mmmmm...now, I would have thought the Sugar Plum Fairy would have recommended Sugar Plums...Yum! grin

Lately the Yamaha CP-1 Stage Piano Fairy has been inhabiting my dreams, but I'm waiting for the more important visit of the Money Fairy (my favorite) before making my dreams come true. wink
