New year's resolutions: anyone else thinking about them yet?

If I'm inclined to have any resolutions at all, I usually start formulating them during December. (I figure there's a greater chance of them actually working if I get used to them gradually instead of expecting a sudden miracle by shocking my system on January 1.)

Does anybody else have any to share? If they're music- or piano-related, so much the better. smile

I'll go first:
  1. Spend less time at this keyboard and more at that other one; and
  2. Listen to some unfamiliar music every day.
Steven

1.I resolve to finish at least three of the 50 minor works I started in 2009 and
2. at least 1 of the 10 major works.
3. learn a "set" of something, probably Brahms.

Finish Brahms Opus 119. (I still need to finish and polish #3 and learn the Rhapsody)
Learn and perform the third movement of Bach's D minor concerto.
Learn the Waldstein
Learn another Bach prelude and fugue
Prokofiev sonata? - maybe late next year.
Do a small informal recital at my Mom's assisted living facility.
Get into a size 12.

Best regards,

Deborah

1. To practice more.
2. To practice more efficiently.
3. To perform as much as possible. (Hopefully I can have something prepared for studio class each week.)

• Manage my time better so that I can..
• Practice more
• Get more experience at performing for others (Luckily, I have some willing neighbors and nearby relatives.)

I'll probably think of others later-

I'm actually starting with a teacher in January, a real one. I'll let him tell me what my resolutions are.

Slow down and do it right.

Hmm...

Resolutions (things I WILL do):
Beethoven Sonata #6 in F Major Op. 10 No. 2
Chopin Etude Op. 25 No. 10
Mendelsson Variations Serieuses Op. 54
Alkan Etude Op. 35 No. 3
Ravel Le Tombeau de Couperin
Not drink any soft drinks at all.

Goals (things I WANT to do, but no guarantee)
Chopin Etude Op. 10 No. 1
Alkan Etudes Op. 35 No. 5 and 11, Op. 27 "Le Chemin de Fer"
Alkan Scherzo Focoso Op. 34 (I don't get why everyone thinks it's impossible? I've tinkered with it and it didn't look too bad.)
Run a 5 minute mile. (5:40 right now)

1. Acquire a repertoire of 10 memorized pieces I can play anytime, anywhere, anyplace. I am halfway there!
2. Exercise more.

So what are the five you have?

My current five:
1. Bach: Allemande from French Suite #4
2. Bach: Prelude in D Major from WTCI
3. Brahms: Intermezzo op.118 #2
4. Chopin: Nocturne op.48 #1
5. Liszt/Schubert: Standchen

Plus I have a couple that are memorized and are in the polishing phase: Fantaisie Impromptu and the Revolutionary Etude.

i. develop awesome scales,
ii. develop arpeggios that are 'on their way'
iii. play with more confidence in front of others,
iv. grow repertoire according to teacher recommendations, such as:
a. continue studying/learning Bach prelude & fugue (3 or four per year)
b. study/learn three Beethoven Sonatas
c. other: Chopin, Brahms, so much more..
v. meet my next piano,
vi. get the body I had just ten years ago... (I can do this.)
vii. find resources on the study of Beethoven, his life, his works.
