I don't know if this has been mentioned already, or if anyone's interested, but in iTunes' classical section they have "24 Hours of Classical Music -- The Perfect Start to Your Collection." It works out to something like 22 albums for $10.

Go to the iTunes classical page. You'll probably see the New York Philharmonic picture right away -- click on the "24 Hours of Classical" picture to the right of that, or just wait until the Philharmonic picture changes to the 24 Hours pic.

(For all I know, it could be a rotten deal. Maybe all of the recordings are sub-standard, performed by no-talent hacks or something. But I haven't had much exposure to classical, and I'm currently unemployed, so this sort of thing is perfect for someone like me.) smile

There's some good stuff in there. And the performers are all world-class as far as I can tell. My only reservation would be that these are likely just mp3's, which generally don't satisfy audiophiles. whome It would be nice if they were AAC like iTunes Plus music. However, I'd say it's a steal for $10.

PS — This'd be one heck of a big download...

I downloaded it (no idea how long it took -- I practiced the piano, had dinner, and it was done when I came back). I then checked a few tracks, and for each one the info said "Purchased AAC audio file." The bit rate is 256 kbps.

Of course, I'm going to play the tracks through my cheap computer speakers. But it's good to know they won't sound even cheaper, I guess. wink

Cool! So they are AAC. Glad to see iTunes is finally moving away from mp3. smile I'm more tempted now...
