I'm a adult beginner n having a thought to buy a DP for home practice... One of music store in my state is having stock clearance n they offer great deals from 1st Dec - 15th Jan 09... I've compared d price from d other music store n these (SP 250, LP 350, CDP 200 R, CDP 100, PX 700, PX 400 R and P85) are what I can afford...

Can any of u help me out which model is d best??

SP 250. If you can afford good external speakers, P 85.

First off, any of these will work for you.

I don't think the P85 is Yamaha's best. It has the GHS action and only single layer samples. The P140 is an another class from the P85 and is the better value. The P155 is a step up from the P140.

THe SP250 and LP350 are identical except for the case design.

I don't know much about the Casios except to say that the newest ones are the PX130 and PX330.

P.S. Did you type your question on a cell phone?

The P-85 has looping sound (on sustain) on some keys and only sounds acceptable in external speakers. The P-155 is a much better choice on all levels.

Of the DPs initially listed I would go for the LP350 or the SP250. The common forum knowledge claims the SP250 to have only 1-level sample, but when reading the Korg SP250 home page, I'm not that sure, as the LP350 has the same sampling, and claims "multiple velocity levels". My guess is now that on (some?) of the grands, both the SP250 and LP350 have 3-level sampling and 1-level sampling on other instruments:

The newest Casios are the Casio PX-830, Casio PX-730 and the Casio AP-620:

P-85 cheap plastic imitation; not because of sound, but weight.

I just arrived home!!

Unfortunately the music centre dun have ready stock for SP 250... so I have to wait till tomorrow evening for the DP (tht means I dun have any chance yet to play with SP 250)... while roaming around the centre, my mom distract us with PX 130 at the display... there are so much talking and my little sis tried so hard to convince me to purchase that PX 130...

wht do u guys think??? KORG SP 250 or CASIO PX 130??

P.S: to ChrisA... nope i did not type my msg on my mobile phone... why??

He might have been referring to you using "n" for "and" and "d" for "the" in your post... smile

I suppose it's best to limit these abbreviations to SMS and vhat, and not use them in e-mail and forum postings [and job applications smile ].

Unnecessary use of short forms can seem a little juvenile and might be off-putting to some, mainly because people associate them with sites like Facebook and YouTube that are full of bad spelling, etc. And you are more likely to get good replies if your question is worded carefully and does not sound rushed...

Do you know if the P85 and the P155 have the same keys and action?

I seem to remember the SP 250 being reviewed as having a better speaker system, more powerful, with a "reflex" enclosure for better bass, and it comes with its own sturdy stand, with a place to attach a pedal.

The P85 has the "GHS" key action. The P155 (and the P140) have "GH". The GH feels more firm
