Does anyone know about the Kawai CN470? I was able to download the user manual so I know all the technical details. This is an older DP. I think from 1993 and I know the sound samples are not up to today's standard but what about the keyboard mechanism? How is the feel and what can you compare it to.

There is one available locally and I may be able to get it "way cheap". If the keyboard is good I can play a software virtual instrument like Pianoteq.

ChrisA,

The CN470 was manufactured in 1999, so it's not quite as old as you first thought. This instrument used the 'Advanced Hammer Action' keyboard. Here is a list of the different '4 series' instrument generations, approximate manufacturing dates, and actions:

CN470: 1999/08, Advanced Hammer Action
CN4: 2005/02, AHA IV
CN41: 2007/06, AHA IV
CN42: 2008/12, AHA IV-F

If you are able to purchase this instrument locally at a good price, be sure to play-test the keyboard thoroughly. Provided the instrument is in good condition and the action mechanism is sound, this would make a very nice Pianoteq controller - you could even route the sound from your PC/Mac back into the instrument's speakers using the LINE IN jacks.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
James
