Can pedals on the new Mason Hamlins(or any piano)be polished? What can be used to do this? I have a spot on the right pedal that seems greyish? Does that mean I have worn through the brass(?)or can it be made to look look like new?

Thanks.

It means you've probably worn through the top coat in that area. Yes, there are metal polishes you can use to polish them back up, but you'll need to add some sort of clear coat if you don't want the pedal to tarnish again almost immediately.

Pedal booties would have solved your problem from the start.

What do we like for a clear coat?

Just Brasso it!It will take 10 secounds! though as Rich said a clear coat will help as for the future tarnish factor. I've had pedals where it looked like somebody took a bite out of it. grin

Manufactures usually clear coat with clear lacquer. It is interesting when rust and tarnish formulate under the clear coat.

Are there any good quality ones? I think they might look nice anyway, but the only ones I got once(which I think were quite common) were extremely flimsy felt things with ties that didn't last long at all. They were cheap, but I'd rather find high quality ones.

I can't have a BB wearing Tom McCann.

My piano's sustain and soft pedals got all cloudy looking (and are starting to again) but I polished it right back up with some kind of brass/metal polish... I'll have to look up the name (it was something similar to Brasso). Apparently they got cloudy because of the oils on my skin from playing barefoot all the time.
