Hi,
I am "re"-starting to play the piano and I am about at the "Fur Elise/ Yann Tiersen" level I would say.
I am interested in Chopin's work (or anything expressive, lively, and emotional of that kind).
Most of his works, I believe, is out of my reach for now.
(My dream is to one day be able to play Fantaisie Impromptu! what joy!)
Anyways, if anyone knows off the top of their heads some easier pieces by Chopin, could you please let me know which ones?
I would greatly appreciate your suggestions.
Thank you.

Easiest Chopin pieces are some of the preludes. Try No 4, 6, 7 or 20.

I was just thinking the same question a little while back. I haven't been playing long and i thought all of Chopin's pieces were beyond me. I've started on my first, Prelude No 7 and i'm hoping to use that for the next PW recital. I think i could also have started on No 4. So either of those would be a good start i think.

My medium term goal is to play a Nocturne, op. 9 no. 2, one of my favorite pieces of music but i do also like the Fantasie Impromptu.

I think the waltz in a min mentioned by cscl is very easy and beautiful.

There is no easy Chopin as the aesthetic bar is set somewhat higher in his music than the norm.

That said: too many people are scared off for precisely that reason. I encourage you wholeheartedly to take on one of his works if you feel ready and are willing to approach it humbly and learn from it! thumb

One commonly overlooked work is the Waltz in F-minor, Op. 70 No. 2.

Mazurka op 67/3 in C. Great music, and not all that difficult to play. As gerg says, whether one can play it well enough to satisfy a Chopin afficionado is a different matter. But anybody who can tackle Fur Elise should be able to tackle this.

The slow middle of the Fantasy Impromptu - the familiar "Chasing Rainbows" part is not too difficult and may not be that far beyond you now.

Slow down and do it right.
