Hello All, newbie here.
I'm about to start taking piano lessons. Looking for a DP for practicing. (I know I will sound terrible and the neighbors will hate me if I use an acoustic)

I've read through several pages of this forum and liked your reviews on YDP160 the best.

One thing that's holding me back is that the new casio PX-X30 models are out. The reviews are great. PX-730 will be here in the US next month. I guess It will be in the same price range as YDP160. From a specs standpoint, 730 will be better than YDP160, am I right? (128 polyphony for PX) and it has some other cool features like the duet mode .

So what do you guys think?

The Casio has the advantage of 128 polyphony, a 4-layer sample and more features in general. The Yamaha has the advantage of a better action, better build quality and possibly a better piano sound.

I'd probably still go for the Yamaha. Casio is fine if you're on a budget, but if you can afford a YDP-160, than it's probably a better quality instrument.

You might price out a CLP-320 also. It has 128 polyphony and some people have been quoted prices that are almost the same between the CLP-320 and YDP-160. The Roland RP-101 and entry level Kawai are also worth a look and a test play.

The new Casio AP-620bk cabinet model actually has better specs and features than the PX-730. The AP-620 specs are virtually identical to the PX-330 but with the use of a more powerful pair of amps.

Full specs in a PDF can be downloaded from Casio's international and European websites.
