Hi All,
I have been reading all the posts about the Zoom H2 and H4. Here is my question? All I really want to do is record my acustic grand piano, and send files to ABF Recital. I have a peice that is almost ready. Most of the vendors have the H2, not all have the H4. I have seen the H2 for $179, and H4 for $229. They are also pushing the H4n for $299, it is the H4 with a more durable case, and larger screen. With the info on foruand and my husband's computer savy, I think I can sucessfully make a recording. All input will be greatfully appreciated thumb

I personally would go with the H2, salzdt. The H4N has certain features that could prove useful if you had more sophisticated needs, like multi-tracking and accepting external mics, but I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of people on AB forum that actually use those advanced features. The H2 should serve you well. I think the H4 has been discontinued, which may be why you're finding that some sites don't carry it. If you were going to pay $300 for the H4N, I'd say just go ahead and buy the Q3 (if it EVER is released!) that would give you the video capability too.

Spend the extra money and get the new Q3 as it will have video recording as well. I have the H2 and it makes great quality recordings but no video.

I'd bet Monica (or myself) would sell you an H2 for less as both of us (and probably others too) are waiting on the new Q3 for the video capabilities.

Yep. I just got one from Amazon too. Best place to buy anything in my humble opinion.

I love my H2 and after the initial learning process find it very easy to record my piano. I agree with eweiss about Amazon.

Thanks for all your input. My hubby is sounding off about maybe you want video capabillities? I bought a Nikon digital SLR tow years ago, has 6.1 mega pixels, could have gotten 10 mega pix for $100 more, but I went with the 6.1. Now off course if you crop your pictures more mega pixels are better. So now, maybe I should get the Q3?. Monica, I think some vendors have the Q3 ready for shippment. I let you know which one I finnaly buy. Since the next recital is coming up, I'll need some time to play with it and practice recording. Thanks again.

I better get mine! I haven't heard from Sweetwater that they're ready to ship. Maybe it's time for another heart to heart chat with Danielle. laugh

The choice between the H4N and the Q3 seems clear to me: If you're okay with paying that much money now, get the Q3 and have video capabilities. The choice between the H2 and the Q3 is less clear. The Q3 will give you video, but the H2 is quite a bit cheaper. It's also the case that the Q3 is not HD, and I'm guessing the next generation WILL be high-def. It becomes a guessing game... how long will it take for them to come out with a HD version of the Q3? I'm champing at the bit for easy video capabilities with good sound, so I'll take the risk of being an early adopter. But I could make a good case for buying the H2 now and waiting for a HD Q3 in another year or two.

To muddle things up even more, I can say that before I got the Flip I thought I'd never want to make a video and do the whole YouTube thing, but now that I've started, it's actually a lot of fun, and I look forward to adding more videos to my channel. So maybe the Q3 is the way to go after all. laugh

Again thank all of your imput. Monica, I went back and forth about the H2 and Q3, and finally decided to go for the Q3. I found a local electronics firm on Google and spoke to them this morning. The guy was very informative, and said it shuld be in the end of September. They offered a headset and 2GM SD card for $249. I ordered it and now can't wait to get my hands on it. What sold me more than the video was the case is metal, which makes it a more duable product. In the meantime I'll download Audacity and reciew all the posts about recording and uploading files.
Who knew that besides trying to become more accomplished piansts we would have to be come recording savy. thumb
