when I play. Then again, maybe he's just telling me how much I've improved. Yeah, that's it. whistle

Does anyone else have pets who react to your playing?

Custer, the furry piano technician in training, closely monitors the tonal quality of the pianos by sharing the bench.

My cat tells me when it is time to stop. If I play too late in the evening she jumps on the bench.

Our cat comes in to hang out with me when I play my digital with the sound turned up. When I play through headphones, she either ignores me or pesters me for dinner (depending on time of day).

My cat ignores me. And so does everyone else. (Snif)

Piano*Cat strikes again!

He will sit there contentedly for a long time. If he is hungry, however, he will use the old 'cold wet nose' trick to interrupt things in rather dramatic fashion.

I remember practicing once, when I was a child, while my family was pet-sitting for our neighbours' dog. Every time I went into this one piece, he'd start to howl sing smile No other piece got any reaction out of him.

All this summer, one of my dogs has been leaving the room and going outside (thru her dog door). Then when I finish she comes back. Then I'll start another piece, she leaves. It has been very disconcerting.

Other times though I've found both her and my other dog, laying on their backs when I finish a piece and look over at them. A sure sign I've done well.

Both cats and our dog gather in our foyer and listen to my wife's concerts. They scatter and hide when I play. Fickle friends!

Mine tried to play a duet with me yesterday. Fortunately Alice (aka The Tiny Terror) was on the high treble and I was in the middle. Usually she's content to sit behind me on the bench or more often at my feet or on the small table beside the bench where I stack my music. Once she decided the felt covered strings would be a good place to nap but a bass triple forte cured of that rather quickly.

Slow down and do it right.
