Eeek!

The piano is coming tomorrow! If you've been through this before...

1 - Any guesses on how long it takes to deliver an upright? Once it's in the house, is there much else to do to it?

(Delivery is scheduled for 11:30-12:30, but I just got pulled into a 2:30 conference call for work. I'm a little nervous about the timing of all this... I'm working from home, but I can't really just have the piano guys hang out for 30 minutes and wait for me if I have to be on the call!)

2 - Anything else I need to know or should expect? I probably should have asked the dealer for a rundown of what to expect.

Can't believe that I'm going to have a piano tomorrow! Still a bit shocked wink

Talked to my teacher tonight, and he wholeheartedly approves of the Schimmel upright wink and thinks its a good choice, which is reassuring!

Although, apparently he lost a bet with his wife. He bet her that I would buy the Estonia, and she said, "nope, not going to happen" wink LOL! I don't blame him, for awhile there *I* thought for sure I'd end up buying it too...

Thanks!

I can only tell you about how my grand was delivered 3 years ago. I bought it from a piano dealer who used only professional piano movers. You called your's "piano guys" so I assume they are too. Two burly guys, who clearly knew what they were doing, pulled out a custom made piano dolley. Before I knew it the piano was safely out of the truck, inside the house, legs on, floor cups in place and ready to go in about 10 minutes. They were pretty amazing.

I think it all depends on whether or not their delivery schedule is on time. Also stairs and doorway size, (which shouldn't be a problem with an upright,) make a difference. Why not give them a call in the morning and explain your time constraints? Just have the house ready with nothing in the way, no slippery rugs, etc. Be prepared to tell them exactly where you want it. Don't be afraid to inspect it for dings.

I assume your dealer included one or two tunings in the price. You'll have to wait a few weeks for the piano to adapt to the environment in your home. Be prepared to tune it frequently until it settles in. I'm picky so I had mine retuned every three months for over a year. You also might want to work on the voicing. Remember the piano you loved in the showroom will sound different in your home.

Congratulations on your new baby! I hope it brings you hours and hours of joy!

Best regards,

Deborah

If they show up on time, saerra (a big "if" sometimes), you'll have no problem making your 2:30 conference call, except of course for finding it hard to pull yourself away from your new piano! grin It probably won't take longer than 15 minutes or so for them to bring in the piano, you to inspect it, and then signing the paperwork.

Speaking of inspection, make sure to look the piano over very carefully before the movers leave. You want to make sure you spot any damage to the cabinet or finish that might have occurred... not that it will, of course, but Just In Case. If you do see any flaw, note it on the delivery paperwork and have the movers initial it. Just In Case.

Play the piano a little, including the pedals, to make sure everything's working.

Scrub/vacuum/clean the wall/floor/baseboard well where you're going to put the piano, because those regions will probably not see the light of day again for a very very long time.

smile PHEW! Thanks Monica, big sigh of relief here! For some reason, I suddenly got worried that this might be one of those things that took *hours* to do!

I've moved all the furniture so that there's a clear path to the piano wall, and vacuumed/mopped up the floor this afternoon. I might try to get one more pass with the micro-fiber-moppy-thing tomorrow morning, to be sure it's really clean wink

Thanks! smile

Thanks Deborah! (Somehow I skipped straight down to Monica's) - 10 minutes for your grand, wow! Awesome!

It sounds like, if everything is on schedule, I have enough of a window that I'll have no problems, I'm very relieved!

And, thanks for the tip about the rug. There's a runner along the hallway that they need to go through - I'll roll it up and out of the way!

Oh - and yup - I'm getting two tunings with the piano! I figure the first one will end up in early October, which should be perfect timing for the start of Fall! wink Worked out well!

Thank you! smile

Congrats, saerra!

I'll second what Monica said.

When my grand piano was delivered from Cincinnati this January, it took all of 10 minutes from the time they arrived to the time they left (of course, I couldn't bear to watch the process until the piano was safely up the front steps and into the room, LOL -- my husband took pictures for me). If they are experienced movers and have a good piano dolly, you should be fine.

Enjoy your new piano! smile

smile Thanks MsAdreinne... you have all helped prevent a stress overload for piano-eve wink

I'm glad I had my lesson tonight too, it was helpful to see my teacher being excited for me...

Although his comment, "Well, I won't go into this now. (Talking about the sonatina I'm working on.) We'll talk next week, when you have the piano. Because then they'll be so much more we can do! And you'll be listening, right? Not just trying to hit the right notes?"

LOL! I always *listen*, even with the digital wink - I'm wondering what he's got in mind now!

Thanks smile

Well, how is it? When do we get to see it? I'm so excited for you.

As my grandmother would say: "Nu?" How did it go?

Best regards,

Thanks... I just posted a thread with the details and pics, but I can't seem to figure out how to make the pics visible, they are just links right now.

The links work, but I was aiming for the pictures to actually show up in the post....

It went. Everyone was right about the delivery, very easy and smooth. The guys were great.

But, I'm thinking perhaps I should have listened more closely to the advice to be patient and not rush the shopping frown Yikes. But that's all in the longer post wink

I guess on the plus side, I really like the bench...
