Does anyone know how much the top artists get paid for a recital in a major venue?

Specifically, I am referring to artists such as Perahia, Argerich, Kissin, Pollini etc

Thanks for helping settle a debate between a friend and myself.

What the heck? 50,000 euro PER CONCERT?? I thought the standard fee was anywhere from $5,000 - $25,000 for a regular concert artist... and god knows how much for the very top.

But 50,000 euro where did u get this info from?

Top football players routinely get paid over $300k per game. $50k for a concert by the most famous pianist (Lang Lang) doesn't seem shocking...

"Standard fee"? What a silly concept! Everything depends on their market value.

No - I mean I (myself) would play for a lot less.

I can play hardly anything, but what the heck...you get what you pay for - right?

In Vienna at the Opera earlier this year tickets were up to 400 Euro, so I can imagine that a full concert hall somewhere would certainly be able to afford Lang Lang's 50K Euro fee. However, it would need to be a pretty big concert hall....

€50,000.00 = approx. $71,000.00 US at the current exchange rate.

Here a normal soloist nowadays with a "good", professional orchestra, would get around $4,000-$6,000.

So what is the difference in pay between a soloist who's playing a concerto with a 'good' professional orchestra, and a professional soloist who's doing a solo recital?

I'm assuming that there is a 'status' differential whereby the pay for a concerto with a pro orchestra is higher than for a solo recital, even though the solo recital might be longer and with more playing involved (I realize it's difficult to compare the effort of the two types of performances so broadly). But I might be wrong...

I would not be surprised to learn - although it's only conjecture at this point - that :

1) Some internationally known performers may have fixed fees for performances and those may vary from solo recitals to solo performances with orchestra
2) Lesser known but equally good musicians may have to vary their fee depending on the city and on the venue
3) Still others may have to take what the venue offers rather than dictating their own fee.
4) The current economy may affect what some performers may charge and/or what they simply have to accept.

That's what I've heard, but Lang Lang has a marketability far above even the most established pianists. I wouldn't be surprised if he made more than Kissin and Argerich combined last year.
