Hi all,
.. I'm learning how to use Band in a Box and would like to see if I can eventually download my work to an .mp3 player, without first having to burn a CD. Is this possible?

thanks,
BevP

Hi Bev,

If you download Audacity (along with the optional Lame application), you can open any .wav file and convert it to an .mp3 file. Audacity is available free on the web.

A quick and easy solution is also a program called Wavosaur.

Wavosaur

It's free and not only does it convert WAVs to MP3s it's a half-way decent WAV editor for working with your files beforehand. You will also need to copy the lame_enc.dll file into the Wavosaur folder but that's it.

If you have no need to edit the .wav file and just want a simpler converter is think winLAME is about as easy as it gets. Just select you file and the program will walk you through the conversion.

winLAME

There are a bunch of other solutions but these (including Monica's suggestion of Audacity) should easily get you started.

Bev,

In theory, Band In A Box can, on its own, record directly to an MP3 file which it can save on your computer. Go to Audio (on top menu), select Midi to Stereo, then click on Save in other Audio format and MP3, and so on.

I said "in theory" because this function is user unfriendly to the point of being downright user hostile. If (after hours of effort), you ever actually succeed in producing the MP3 file, you may not be able to find it on your computer.

I have my digital piano audio outputs wired into my computer, and I use Audacity to record as I play the piano and Band In A Box does its thing. Audacity saves directly to MP3.

If you ever need advice on Band In A Box, an excellent resource is the PGMUSIC forum, here:

I have often posted detailed questions there, and received several authoritative replies within hours. Really.

iTunes will do it too, and not just mp3 format either.

Thanks everyone,
I'm still working my way through my first week of BIAB. It's not as user friendly as I would have liked. Saving to .mp3 has become less of a priority, as I've had issues getting my songs to play with audio. *sigh* I'm just on the bottom of the learning curve...

thanks!
