Hello, Does anyone have a Pierce Piano Atlas who would be so kind as to look up a piano for me.
The serial number is #36047. This is an upright which states that it was manufactured by The Cable Company Chicago. It also has a commemorative plaque commemorating the landing of Christopher Columbus. I am not sure if it was 100 yrs, or 200yrs etc. as I had limited visibility of the plaque when I saw it. I have the opportunity to have this piano at no charge as it was left in a building that now houses a daycare center. The daycare center simply wants someone to take it away. I am piano-illiterate and would welcome any help. I have done some research on the Cable Co. and have learned of the background for this Co. but would very much like more specific information on the piano itself. Many thanks in advance for any assistance or advice.

Regards, Z

confused In th piano atlas, there are four listings. Hobart Cable from Indiana, Cable-Nelson from Chicago, and Cable Piano Company from Memphis. At one time, Cable Piano Co. was in Chicago, but was known as Jackson & Wabash. If it's Cable-Nelson, then it's from 1905. If it's Cable Piano Co., then it's from 1901.

Hope this helps!

Are you sure Jackson & Wabash wasn't their address? I'm wondering because that intersection in the southeast corner of the Loop at one time was the nexus of the Chicago music industry, being home to, among other things, the formerly eminent Carl Fischer store, and the celebrated Lyon & Healy musical instrument store.

Personally, I have no idea. Just quoting what the Pierce Piano Atlas says.
