Just when you think you've heard it all!!

Prospective students with several allergies. Before committing to lessons Dad wants to bring the boys in to "stop by and sniff in your house" to see if anything in it bothers them.

Lol. Now I better go vacuum smile

That's a new one!
Seriously, though, there are allergy issues and one of my current students does have an issue with my cat. Cat hangs around the studio quite a bit and my student is very allergic to her. His face gets red and eyes swell up, so I have to lock up Cat during his lesson.

Hehe, he's not quite that good, but he likes to sit next to me and watch my hands. I simply adore Nora, BTW. thumb

Are you going to allow your home to be sniffed E&I? If it were me, I'd have some hot sauerkraut cooking along with garlic and onions! 2hearts

Now I better go vacuum

A mom brought her 7-year-old twins to meet me last week. As I welcomed them, I told them that I was going to clean up for them, but I was afraid they'd expect it every time. wink

I have two cats, and one of my first questions is whether anyone has allergies. One of my cats thinks my students come just to play with her. She spends most lessons locked in my office. When I go out of town, my students fight over who gets to cat sit.

My advice about the house-sniffing is to not do anything unusual. Let them sniff your normal dust, perfume, air fresheners, etc. If there is going to be a problem, best find out now.

Too funny! I was thinking maybe I'd leave all the football equipment laying about, that would send them running! wink Seriously, yes, they're coming right before I start on Monday to get their whiffs.

That's what I figured too. They said they had to leave the last teacher cuz she used Airwicks. Sounds pretty sensitive! Or maybe she had cats and was trying to cover it up lol.

No cats here, but I have 2 dogs.

Hi Ebony and Ivory,
They are probably sniffing for perfume, or cleaning agents that leave an aroma...air spray or other cleaners that leave a scent in the air. Some people are allergic to perfume etc. I also know someone who sends her niece into stores ahead of her to sniff to see if it's OK. This person happens to be a bit of a nut, but she's probably trying to detect perfumes. In my opinion it would be more sensible to just tell a teacher what the allergies are...discuss it, not give a 'sniff test'.

Ha ha, yeah smile
He did tell me what they're allergic to. It was when I said I had dogs that he asked for the "sniff test". It should be okay, they stay on the tiled areas (the dogs, not the students wink ).

I avoid those perfumed areas of department stores too, ick!

I have a very close friend for whom many things could be toxic. She cannot leave the house without a special apparatus that forces in purified air and pulls out toxins. Even being in the same house with someone who sprayed hair spray down the hall with the door closed could send her to the hospital. She ended up with this condition by being exposed repeatedly to toxic mold.

I respect anyone's wish to come and check out my place ahead of time. You never know the severity of someone's reactions to things that are harmless to most.

More and more I think you are going to find people who are going to have to "sniff" your home. It has nothing to do with your cleanliness or cooking. Many people are developing allergies or sensitivities or have been poisoned with chemicals and so must be very careful of odors, cleaning agents, hand lotions with scents, hair spray, even some laundry soaps or softeners are too strong for some people. It is nothing to take offense at and trust me the people for whom it limits them as to where they can go or what they can do because of running into something that makes them sick are most appreciative of your understanding of something of which they have no control. And your putting someone else's health ahead of feelings or what may seem odd to you only speaks most highly of you for caring for others, Good for you
