This was my first attempt at composing an etude. I am not done with composing it, but right now, it runs about 2:20.

This etude consists primarily of sixteenth notes.

This was supposed to be written in the Alkan style(like his Grande Etudes), but I really didn't take this too seriously, as it lacks melody, the left hand part is taken out and is replaced by chords, its not complete, and the chords are repetitive. I haven't touched this since the beginning of this year(about 6 months ago).

So I thought I could post this, and see what you guys think of it so far. I think it is pretty catchy for the first time composing an etude.

Steps I took in composing this etude:

1. Thought up some chord progression
2. Created a melody
3. Put some runs in based on the melody.
4. Edited the flaws(trying to make everything flow)

This was composed by Finale NotePad:

You shouldn't advertise your stuff as crappy, I was expecting something bad, I was pleasantly surprised.

It'd be MUCH nicer in non .MID format as that tinny piano noise is horrid but I really do like the chord progression, perhaps some variety in rhythm would be nice but otherwise keep at it.

I liked the first 30 seconds or so and I like the general idea. But it started sounding like a run on sentence and the ran on and on. Admittedly, a midi exported from Notepad will be prone to sound that way because it lacks any dynamics and phrasing. At this point I'd work on defining those aspects of performance to determine if the problem is the performance or the music. I suspect you need to write more variety into the sixteenth notes, but it's hard to tell right now.

You have some good music in there. You just have to tease it out. So what's this about noSkillz and crappy etudes?

Definitely not crappy and it sounded very good when I played it back on my Motif rack.
