Hi everyone,

I am looking at a used Technics SX-PR900. It is owned by older couple and seems to have had little use and is in excellent condition. Owner thinks it is 3-4 years old but I suspect it may be a bit older. Could you please offer any pros/cons about this model and what a current market value would be for such a piano? Thank you in advance for your help/opinions.

Defintely older than 3-4 years. I also had a midrange technics sx series piano about 9 years ago at around the same time the sx-pr-900 was on sale.

Technics dont make pianos anymore so repairs and parts will be virtually impossible. Because of the age I wouldn't pay a large amount for it, what are they offering it for?

The sound quality is actually good for the grand piano especially when set up with an amp and hi-fi.
Keyboard is ok, to my memory its not graded and not as good as the upper end of current Roland and Clavinovas.

Technics pianos can also have an annoying high pitched sound coming from the motherboard/speakers after a few years, theres nothing that can be done about it so watch out for that, mine had this issue. This is not an problem if plugged into an amp or headphones.

Otherwise I think Technics are very good.

This is probably older than 3-4 yrs. Moreover, the brand
is no longer sold in the US. The lack of repair and
parts service is not a real problem, because digital pianos
are very durable and reliable. Technics were solid,
quality instruments, and so this should be a good
piano.

As for price, consider that something like a new
Casio PX 800 or M-Audio DCP 200 already has
this beat in every way specs-wise. These sell
new today for $900. A yr. from now a used one
would be worth half that. So you should be paying
significantly less than $450 for the Technics.
