Hello,
I would like to let you see somo photos of a grand piano.
Could you give me some informations about it, and about the brand?

The piano will be restored in the coming years.
Is it good to restore?
What conditions is it in?
The keys are locked by humidity, and so it can't play.

Here there are some photos:

I've read several posts on this forum that have cited Ronisch pianos to be some of the very best made pianos in the world. It seems to fall into that 'best kept secret' category along with pianos like Feurich and Pfieffer.
Do you know what year it was made in?

Hi:

From what I see, this piano is in horrible condition.
I would be extremely cautious about spending money on
it.

It would date from about 1895. It looks like it might be worth restoring, provided you can find someone who is good at that sort of work. I would recommend finding that person, and getting his or her opinion. I would not pay much for the shell of the piano.

The piano is completely to restore. At the moment I was only searching some information about it. It will be probably restored during the next years, when I will find a very good restorer to do it.

You could ask Rönisch in Leipzig. I am sure they restore their own pianos.

Thank you Gregor for help.

But, in this case, should I bring the piano in Leipzig?

I have played a few Ronisch upright and player pianos and I must say they were very nice indeed. Very nice rich tone and very balanced across the registers. They seem to be favourites among rebuilders and second-hand dealers. But of course any piano is only as good as the condition. I'm sure your rebuilder will give you an idea of what potential your particular piano has. Looking at the pictures, it looks like it has had some action parts replaced (very badly!) The dampers look quite new and possibly other parts. I just hope nothing important is missing. But anything can be done if cost is no barrier.

Rönisch was purchased by Blüthner about 2 years ago.

Looking at the hammerline and the keys there are two important questions:
1) Are they so bad as a result of swollen leads (easily fixed), or severely warped keys (possibly needing replacing)?
2) what is the condition of the soundboard? A good indication as to general humidity-related damage can be the bridges. The pins are reacted on laterally by the strings, and these normally (but not always) un-sealed parts can exhibit splits before the soundboard does.

I have a Roenisch Solophonola (a player grand by Hupfeld) and the imstrument is superb, equal to the Ibachs, Feurich and Bechstein in the family (all top notch).

With regards to the keys I'd like to mention my Feurich. The case and keys were badly affected by humidity, however the soundboard and bridges do not have a single crack in them. In this case the instrument was well worth restoring. In conclusion, the keys concern me, but don't jump to conclusions until you've investigated further!
