Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum and I think it's great. So, I want to learn piano and I've decided to buy a Casio PX120 this August. I recently read this post:

http://www.pianoworld.com/forum/ubb...X130/730/330%20%20comin.html#Post1228336

(If it helps, I went to the website in the post and used Google Translate to translate it from Japanese to English)

Should I wait until the PX130 comes out? Do you think it would be worth it?

I've read about some problem with the keys on the PX120 and I was wondering if they'd fixed them in this model.

I really want a DP that really feels like an acoustic and I don't have a huge budget($700). That brings up another question: Will it be around the same price?

I'm not exactly the most patient guy in the world, but I'd be willing to wait another year if it's worth it.

Thanks in advance!

-Mark

Really? NO ONE REPLIED? NO ONE HAS AT LEAST AN OPINION? I guess this forum is crap after all! Now I know where NOT to go for all my piano questions.

Dude, its been one day, its not like there is THAT much activity on this forum. Secondly, you are asking about a specific piano, and one that isn't that popular compared to say the Clavinovas or Roland HP line. So its not unreasonable to wait a bit before someone who knows how to answer comes along.

More patience needed.

May I ask if the date of birth in your profile is correct?

Anyway, the PX-130 does appear to have a number of strengths over the current PX-120. Thus if you not in a great hurry to purchase an instrument, then yes, I would recommend waiting for the new model to arrive outside of Japan.

Kind regards,
James

The people here are generally helpful. Someone with a good answer would've come along if you waited long enough. This isn't a chat box, you know.

There are multiple threads discussing the PX-120 if you use the search button. The discussions in the thread you posted (where I also participated) are probably enough for you to make the decision yourself. Unless someone who has tried the new models writes a review, we really don't have a way of telling if the new models are that much better to warrant an upgrade. We can only see the specs on paper. But how does it sound and how does it play? Your guess is as good as mine.

Since digital pianos are tech products, a newer, better model will always come out after a couple of years or so. We're lucky that these past couple of decades, DP technology has vastly improved so the current lower-end models perform miles better than even the top-of-the-line models 15 years ago.

You can wait for the next model to be released, or buy the PX-120 now. Both have their advantages. Newer models always have better specs and features. But are you willing to delay learning to play the piano for about another year? (We don't know when they'll be released outside of Japan). Patience is a virtue, but personally, I'd rather be playing NOW than waiting. But that's just me. Should you take the plunge or wait? It's all up to you and your priorities.

I went looking for a PX-130 in Tokyo last weekend. I was still only seeing PX-120s. So they aren't in most stores yet and it will be even longer before they make it to the States. I wouldn't want to wait for up to a year before getting a piano just because the new one is (probably) better.

If you don't want to get a PX-120/320 because they'll be replaced, I'd consider getting something else instead. Unfortunately, that might require spending a bit more, since the PX-120 is pretty much the cheapest decent DP that you can get. With only one-level dynamic sampling, I don't recommend the Yamaha P-85. But if your budget could stretch for it, The Yamaha P-140 or P-160, the Kawai ES-6 or the Roland FP-4 are all worth considering. The Korg SP-250 is also decent.

Or just wait. But you said that patience wasn't one of your virtues, and that seems to be the case...

Geoff, according to the press release, the PX-130 is not due for release until the 24th of this month.

Incidentally, Casio announced a new Celviano instrument also...

Thanks everyone for the advice I'm just going to get a PX120. I only posted the second post to get people to reply, I'm sorry. And to KAWAI James: Yes that's my age, is there an age limit on this forum?

No, not at all. However, I'm sure I'm not the only person here who was thinking of writing something along the lines of "Stop behaving like a 15 year old..."

Anyway, good luck with your PX-120 - I'm sure it will prove to be a great instrument to start learning on.

Cheers,
James

Mark, welcome to the forum. I have the PX-120. I bought it knowing Casio was talking about upgrades to the Privia line. The reason was simple. I needed a piano, I didn't need to wait around for months waiting. You will like the 120. I love mine, and I can't believe any upgrades to the line could be so significant as to justify waiting around for months when I could be playing piano now. Enjoy your DP.
