Hello there everyone,

So I just came back from my trip into Boston. Met my piano tech there. For my budget, around $1,200 - $1,500 we looked at an old Balwin, I think it was about 50 yrs old. Basic black, no ornate carvings. I can't remember the specifics. And we looked at a Kawai (looked like the 506N).

These two seemed the best bet for me out of what the choices were.

My question for you all is, what do you think I should expect with my budget?

I'll just start the conversation with that question. Thank you all.

Have to say though, both of the 2 pianos were pretty nice for what I can afford.

For $1500, you can expect either to pick the one that you like the best, or to do a lot more work searching.

If the Baldwin is a Hamilton studio, that is a decent price to pay for it. You could probably do better from a private party, but that is more work.

Not much, even in this economy. If your budget is rigid, I'l stick with privste sellers. Dealer overhead precludes a good piano at that price.

That 50 year old might be worth more like $500 or zero. The 506n or some Baldwin Yamaha Kawai 15 - 20 years old could be okay.

I got to buy the Yamaha U1(40 years old) for $1500 from a Korean home. it was in a perfect condition

But if you want to buy a good piano for that price,
you should not buy from a piano store,(they are so expensive)

try to look for private home deal. Directly from the owner.

I also bought the Young Chang Piano made in 2000 for only $700 since the owner had to move immediately and it was a good chance for me!

Hey, thank you all for your advice.

I am willing to spend up to the full $1,500

Would you all be interested in a search for me today? The craigslist posts people found and some that I have looked at before too, but it is very hard for me to tell if a piano on craigslist is worth it or not.

Well it looks like craigslist has been updated today with all the pianos people are trying to sell.

Would anyone be interested in doing a craigslist search for me and give me your genius opinions?

Thank you so so so much everyone. I think I'd loose it without all of you.

Have you looked at any of the pianos already listed? You really cannot go wrong with a $175 Everett studio.

We can't tell if a Craigs list piano is good or not....until we see it!!! Have a tech inspect anything before you buy.
