Hello Piano Technicians of Planet Earth,

I'm learning from the pianoworld forums that accurate RH measurements may be hard to come by. I also see from online browsing that there are cheapo models and expensive models. I'm inclined to get a more expensive model for the (presumed) better accuracy and (presumed) longer life and reliability.

There's one from BK Precision for around $150 with an actual spec sheet that lists accuracy ranges of +/- 2.5% which seems pretty good, but I haven't been able to find any customer reviews.

Does anyone have a recommendation for reliable and accurate hygrometers?

Thanks,
FB

I was going to answer, then I noticed the "of Planet Earth" limitation...

I have a small logger style unit that is a set and kinda forget about it for a few months. Then plug it into your pc's USB port and upload the readings. Omega Temp/Humidity DataLogger It will log readings at set intervals, from every 12 sec to once every 12 hours till it records 16000 readings for each.

I recommend and use a caliber III hygrometer for cigars
I like it because its small, light and during an appointment it displays the current levels and records the high and low levels and i can access both at the end of the appointment......
the magnet makes it fit anywhere on a frame....
Measures 15% - 95% RH with an accuracy of +/- 1%.

I have a solid recommendation: Hobo U-12 series data loggers, made by Onset Computer Corp. They are about the size of a small cassette tape and are meant to be read out by a PC via a USB port. The U12 series is about $110; there are cheaper and more expensive versions. They'll log 65000 data points; at a sample rate of once every 150 seconds, that's about 38 days. I recommend this model because I bought 2 of them and have calibrated them repeatedly in my lab. Unlike many humidity meters, these actually conform to their specifications, which are +- 2.5 % RH.
