I'll add a list of pieces in my rep that I would perform only with an "obligatory-ten-hour-makeout-session-with-Danica McKellar" clause in the contract:

Scriabin: Sonata #8, Op. 66
Godowsky/Chopin: Ignuus Fatus and/or Winterwind etudes
Reger: Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Bach, Op. 81
Nancarrow: Tango?
Martucci: Piano Quintet, Op. 45
Liszt/Horowitz: Scherzo and March
Tchaikovsky/Feinberg: Scherzo from Symphony #6
Brahms: Concerto #2, Op. 83

Not already on list -

Bach WTC I, nr 1 fugue & prelude
John Field - nocturnes 9 and 10
Carl Filtsch - Adieu and Mazurka

(Matt, copy the main list onto notepad - then you can edit as much as you like.)

Slow down and do it right.

very impressed, and to be truly honest, quite amazed at how much repertoire our fellow members have under their fingers.

Here are a few of mine that I personally have that have not been mentioned.

John Ogdon - Kaleidoscopes 2 & 4, Theme & Variations
Gyorgy Ligeti - Etudes 15-18
Lowell Liebermann - Nocturnes 1-10
Salvatore Sciarrino - Nocturnes 1-6
Nikos Skalkottas - Suite no. 1 , 4 Etudes
Samuel Adler - 3 Preludes
Richard Danielpour - The Enchanted Garden - Preludes Book 1
Volker Heyn - Tap, 203...
Alexander Mosolov - Deux Nocturnes
Sergei Protopopov - Piano Sonata no. 1
Behzad Ranjbaran - Nocturne
Samuil Feinberg - Piano Sonatas 3-7
Paul Rhys - Not I

... A lot more that I've managed to play before but these stand out in my memory. One big difference probably, between other members and me, would be th fact that I can only play about 5 of these pieces mentioned on immediate request. The others I would need a day in advance to prepare again. I sort of sight-read everything; I do not try to memorize all that much.

I'd be interested in hearing if anyone here on PW plays the complete Liszt/Paganini Grande Etudes ... < I have them about 90% down, but I am 0% satisfied with the way they come out.

Does anyone here also play Ravel's Left-Hand Piano Concerto, Finnissy's English Country Tunes, or Villa-Lobos' Prole do Bebe Suite no. 2?

im quite interested in hearing anything regarding those works ...

My dad keeps bugging me about learning these. He bought the sheet music for me when I was like 18 or so (as if!). He even reminded me of them the other day, and I still think I'm far away from that! laugh

You can add:
-Etudes: Op. 10 No. 5
-Waltz Op. 64 No. 2
to your Chopin. Looks like the G minor Ballade and the Military Polonaise are already there. That's it for my Chopin, but I can give you another composer to add; Benjamin Godard's Toccata

My list is at home with my piano. (I'm on vacation and I'm missing it terribly.) I wouldn't be surprised if PW has most solo music covered. I'll add my list in a few days.

How's your mom? Feeling better I hope.

Best regards,

Deborah

You have a list? I've been adding them as they occured to me. Which reminds me:

Debussy Arabesque no 2
and I can't believe nobody has admitted to knowing Beethoven's Bagatelle in A minor... so I will.

Yeah, I finally sat down and created a list in Excel. It has proven to be very useful with both my former and current piano teachers. It gave them ideas on what I needed to learn.

I should probably do that. I don't have a teacher, but if I kept a list above my piano, it would remind me of what needed practice.

She's good. It's almost like once every 3 or 4 months she just needs a "chill" day. She gets up sooooo early everyday by habit and doesn't sleep much I think... so I like to think her body chooses one day to just play some catch up.

No piano for that day frown

It's an unwieldy thread, Matt, but turning out to be more interesting than I thought. I suppose it will go on until we've discovered that every piece anyone can think of is played by somebody here smile

Just a few I don't think anyone's mentioned. I wouldn't perform all of these at a moment's notice - maybe a week or two - but I have performed them in living memory smile.

Bach - French suite #6 (E major)
Bach - Partita #6 (E minor)
Beethoven - Sonata op.109
Mozart - Adagio in B minor K540
Schumann - Fantasiestücke op.12
Chopin - Barcarolle op.51
Chopin - Berceuse op.57
Granados - La maja y el ruiseñor (from Goyescas)
Schoenberg - 6 Kleine Klavierstücke op.19
(And I add the following in brackets, just for a giggle. I did perform it once - what was I thinking?? - but it's a Long Time Ago, and I haven't played it since. I recently found an old cassette tape recording of the concert but don't have the courage to listen to it!
Stravinsky - Three Movements from Petrouchka crazy)

Chamber works:
Schubert - both piano trios (B flat D898, E flat D929)
Mendelssohn - piano trio D minor

Deborah,

After looking at your extensive list, I can conclude that you are about 214 years old!

Very impressive... I need to go practice now... sigh...

I do love to learn new music, but I don't always play it as well as I'd like.

I'm sure we can all say the same! Aren't pianists perfectionists by nature? With so much attention to detail, it's no wonder we are never satisfied. One famous pianist (Rubinstein?) said he wasn't satisfied with his playing until age 80. Another (Arrau?)said that when he "revived" an old piece, the first 12 performances were terrible. Even if you are not 100% satisfied, your list is impressive nonetheless.

I'm enjoying this thread because it gives me ideas of what to tackle next.
(even if I'm only 80% satisfied with my performance...)
